"One of the 50 Coolest Websites...they simply tell it like it is" - TIME
Mortal Kombat | 1995 | PG-13 | - 1.6.2
Based on the popular video game, "Mortal Kombat" pits mortals against supernatural beings in a tournament where the prize is Earth itself.
SEX/NUDITY 1 - Some vague, non-obscene sexual innuendo.
VIOLENCE/GORE 6 - There is not much blood (a man has a line of blood come out of his mouth, a man has a couple of bloody scratches on his face), but a great deal of martial arts fighting resulting in death. The fight scenes contain screaming and bone crunching, twists and turns, punches and kicks. A man falls to his death onto spikes, writhing and groaning. Cops shoot at a crowd of people (one person falls through a glass window and dies). A woman breaks a man's neck with her legs. A man breaks a boy's back with his foot. A man has a whip-like scorpion come out of his hand that follows people and tries to kill them by biting them. A man shoots out a ball that causes another man to freeze and then break into many pieces. An attacker becomes a skull and is cut many times (liquid oozes out) before exploding. Some of the fighters have various deformities. A reptile-like thingy attacks people and when it dies bugs and worms ooze out of its body.
LANGUAGE 2 - One scatological term, a couple of milder obscenities.
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Sacrifice, revenge, destiny.
MESSAGE - You can't escape your destiny.
CAVEATS
Be aware that while we do our best to avoid spoilers it is impossible to disguise all details and some may reveal crucial plot elements.
We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and older reviews are not as complete & accurate as recent ones; we plan to revisit and correct older reviews as resources and time permits.
Our ratings and reviews are based on the theatrically-released versions of films; on video there are often Unrated, Special, Director's Cut or Extended versions, (usually accurately labelled but sometimes mislabeled) released that contain additional content, which we did not review.
Gladiator II - 2.7.2
Wicked: Part I - 3.4.2
Bonhoeffer: Pastor. Spy. Assassin. - 1.5.3
Emilia Pérez - 6.6.7
