The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie VIOLENCE/GORE 3

 – Ominous music plays with opening credits and an alarm rings as an asteroid approaches Earth; a scientist sees a glowing green flash in the sky and follows its trajectory to discover a crater where it slammed into ground after crashing through the roof of a house; the man is blasted with a bright light, yells and he is shown disheveled and lumbering later. A man pours green goo from a briefcase into a large vat of swirling liquid in a chewing gum factory. A man stumbles toward a creature with long fingers, nails and sharp teeth and bows in front of it; the creature laughs maniacally. A large creature takes form in a glass enclosure and breaks out, chasing three characters through a lab and trying to grab them with long tendrils; the characters hide and we hear the heart of one beating loudly in fear, it grabs a duck and tries to force itself into the duck’s mouth until the creature is sprayed with flames and explodes, splattering goo around the area. A pig and a duck are placed in a cell with electrified bars. A pig sprays people with a gas that causes them to spit out whatever is in their mouths and another pig sprays the goo with a flamethrower. People chase three characters and when they are stuck on a rooftop, one climbs to the roof of a neighboring building, another jumps across and when the third jumps, she is grabbed by a person on the first roof and encased in goo. People in a zombie state become aggressive and chase two pigs. A pig and a duck hide in a house and people in a zombie state clamber to get inside, breaking the house apart and it collapses. A pig and a duck argue bitterly blaming each other for their situation (“You always make everything worse”). A creature threatens to blow up Earth. A flaming asteroid hurtles toward Earth and a plan is made to destroy it before impact. Three characters are trapped inside an asteroid as it begins to explode; one character is stuck to a boulder and another comes back to save him (we see the asteroid explode). A duck and a pig crash to the ground stuck to a large rock (they are unharmed). A woman’s head explodes leaving an empty hole in her suit collar.
A man tells a young duck and a young pig that the world can be cruel; the man walks away and does not return (it is implied that he dies) and the two young ones cry. A man falls from an airplane after it takes off and we hear him yell. A duck pulls a man’s eyebrows off leaving reddened flesh on his face. A woman threatens to condemn a house if a gaping hole in the roof is not repaired. A man drags his feet through a street and carries a briefcase filled with green goo that dribbles out of it; he repeats the word “chew.” People chew pieces of chewing gum, seize briefly and then appear to be in a trance (zombie-like); we later see eyeballs pop out of the gum in their mouths. A pig and a duck scuffle and tumble on the ground; the pig lands on the sidewalk and has another pig’s foot in his mouth (we see some saliva). A duck writes a will anticipating the worst outcome. A large round metal slab rolls on the ground rolling over a creature and then falling flat on it.
A duck chews a piece of gum that explodes in his mouth and we see him shriveled, charred and smoldering but quickly returns to normal. A duck punches himself in the head and face and slams his head in a car door several times. A duck accidentally peels off his feathers leaving only his flesh exposed. A duck and a pig are blasted by an explosion and we see them smoldering and with charred faces. A duck uses a launcher to deliver newspapers and they are shot out at high-speed, striking a young boy on a bicycle and throwing him into the air. A pig and a duck cry torrents of tears that flood a cell where they are held and short out the electrified bars. A man slides across a long counter knocking equipment and glass to the ground. A duck uses a giant hammer to try to put out a fire and breaks things including a fire extinguisher. A giant pin moves toward a bubble that surrounds the Earth and the bubble bursts spraying goo all around.
A duck sprays flames on a pile of garbage outside. A duck rides on a firework that scorches a flaming pattern in a field. Three people tease a pig in a factory and she becomes angry. A bully trips a pig at school and teases him and a duck drops an egg on the bully’s head from the rooftop. A ball hits a vase in a house and it tips over landing on a pig’s head causing him to stutter when he speaks. A duck smears butter on a handrail and he and a pig slide down and out the front door of a house knocking down a man outside. A duck and a pig slobber over plates of spaghetti and spaghetti sauce is splattered around the table and walls. A duck sleeps in a bathtub and a pig turns on the water to wake him up; he wakes up yelling. A pig and a duck work in a factory performing a repetitive task and imagine moving through the cogs of the machinery and floating in large bubbles. Several people facepalm themselves.
Characters talk about a “rotten egg extract” that causes people to vomit (we later see people spitting out pink goo with eyeballs in it). A pig spits a mouthful of coffee on another pig’s face. A pig puts a dish sponge in her mouth. An alien spits a mouthful of liquid on a man. A dog blows a chewing gum bubble from under its tail and a man’s false teeth float away on a chewing gum bubble.
A character says, “I think I’m gonna be sick” (he does not get sick). A person describes the bubbles in a Boba tea as “kinda like a snot ball.”
A pig drinks from a cup of squid ink and his face turns green. Mold is shown growing in a dark corner of a house. A pig falls through a hole in the floor of a house and we understand that there are termites. A duck touches green goo left around a large hole in the roof of his house.

CAVEATS

Be aware that while we do our best to avoid spoilers it is impossible to disguise all details and some may reveal crucial plot elements.

We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and older reviews are not as complete & accurate as recent ones; we plan to revisit and correct older reviews as resources and time permits.

Our ratings and reviews are based on the theatrically-released versions of films; on video there are often Unrated, Special, Director's Cut or Extended versions, (usually accurately labelled but sometimes mislabeled) released that contain additional content, which we did not review.
