The Woman in the Yard SEX/NUDITY 1

 – A woman walks through what looks like a safe and along a passageway until she finds her husband lying in a bed telling her about a dream; they embrace tenderly, he kisses her on the head and she sits up (please see the Violence/Gore category for more details). A husband and his wife lie in bed touching noses and talking.
A woman wears a tank top that reveals cleavage and her bare abdomen in several scenes. A woman wears a low-cut dress that reveals cleavage.

The Woman in the Yard VIOLENCE/GORE 5

 – A woman considers suicide as another person talks to her about the dark thoughts in her mind; she holds a rifle and puts her finger on the trigger, and puts the barrel under her chin as she cries, and stops to say goodbye to her children.
A car speeds on a road during a rainstorm and crashes head on into another vehicle (we hear glass shattering, skidding and a collision). A woman has several flashbacks to a car crash that killed her husband and we hear glass shattering; we also see the wrecked vehicle covered by a tarp in the yard. A woman imagines stabbing her young daughter in the back with a large kitchen knife. A woman holds her young daughter, the child falls still and the woman sees blood on her own hands; she tries to revive the child (she is OK).
A woman swings a bat at something standing in the shadows of a room; we see a person with a bloody gash on her head later. A woman sitting in a yard and covered with a black shroud opens her hands to reveal that they are covered with blood and we see a nearby chicken coop with blood and dead birds inside it. A woman searches outside for her dog, finds the chain buried in the ground and pulls it, but nothing is on the end (we fear the dog is dead, but we see him OK later). A person holds a young girl close and they seem to disappear into a dark shadow; a woman and a teen boy search for the young girl when we hear her calling for them. A shadow hand grabs a young girl’s foot and drags her on the floor (she’s OK). A shadow moves through the air and over a barking dog causing it to whimper and the scene ends. A shadow moves through a room and through a house causing things to move and fall over and a door slams startling a young girl and she screams when the shadow looms on a wall and resembles a skeletal being. A woman walks through what looks like a safe and along a passageway, until she finds her husband lying in a bed telling her about a dream; they embrace tenderly and she leaves. A woman holds a gun on someone in the shadows.
A teen boy finds and loads a rifle and locks his mother in a room; he confronts a woman outside and threatens to shoot her and she talks to him as a shadow in the shape of a hand rings a wind chime behind him, startling him. A teen boy tries to start a car in a barn and it won’t start, he sees shadows moving around outside the barn and swings a fireplace poker, as his mother comes around the door; they then argue. A woman and her teen son argue and she throws a basket at him (he is not harmed). A woman covered completely with a black shroud sits in a yard and appears to be moving closer to a house; a teen boy conjectures that “maybe she’s dead,” scaring his younger sister and a dog barks at the woman incessantly. A woman walks toward another woman seated in her yard and covered with a black shroud; she asks what she is doing there and tells her to leave or she will call the police. A woman imagines her husband wrapping a sheet around her head violently.
A young girl screams when she steps on a sharp shard and cuts her foot (we see blood and her mother pulls out the shard). A young girl holds a large kitchen knife and prepares to cut a piece of cheese when her mother stops her and takes the knife away. A woman using crutches on stairs slips and nearly falls. A teen boy finds and lights a lighter in attic storage. A woman yells at her children and throws a coffee mug on the floor, breaking it. A teen boy bounces a ball against a wall in the house and his mother yells, telling him to stop; when he doesn’t stop, she grabs the ball, throws it outside and sends him to his room. A woman yells at her young daughter when she repeatedly writes a letter incorrectly in her writing practice.
A young girl talks about accidents like when her father crashed and died in a car accident. A woman grieves over the death of her husband and looks at an empty chair at a table a few times.
The camera speeds through tall grass as a man’s voice talks about having had a dream. A teen boy opens curtains and bright sunlight streams into a room where a woman is covered in bed and watching a recording of her late husband. A teen boy opens the hatch to an attic and it makes a loud thud sound. A woman falls off her crutches and moans on the floor (she gets back up and is OK). A woman imagines looking at a scar and stitches on her leg and pulling out something along with part of the suture (blood oozes); we then see her wound still stitched up and she covers it with the bandage. A woman wears a brace and bandages on her leg and uses crutches throughout the movie.
A woman laughs and spits out a mouthful of scrambled eggs when she is told they are made with Doritos (we see goo land on the plate). A dog vomits a portion of leftovers fed to him and we see a pile on the floor.

Be aware that while we do our best to avoid spoilers it is impossible to disguise all details and some may reveal crucial plot elements.

We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and older reviews are not as complete & accurate as recent ones; we plan to revisit and correct older reviews as resources and time permits.

Our ratings and reviews are based on the theatrically-released versions of films; on video there are often Unrated, Special, Director's Cut or Extended versions, (usually accurately labelled but sometimes mislabeled) released that contain additional content, which we did not review.
