Set It Off | 1996 | R | - 4.8.9

Four women begin robbing banks in an effort to get enough money to better their lives.

SEX/NUDITY 4 - Sexual innuendo, kissing, scantily clad women (including a lesbian couple). There are two separate scenes where a naked man is thrusting on top of a naked woman (all we see is the man's back). A man and woman kiss and rub oil over each other as foreplay; we see the bare buttocks of each one and then we see thrusting.

VIOLENCE/GORE 8 - Scuffles, fighting, threatening with guns. A man is shot with some blood, a teenage boy is shot many times by the police with jerking and blood and blood gets on the shirt and hands of his sister. Two shoot-outs with many people shot and killed with a lot of blood (smears and close-ups of bloody wounds) and jerking of bodies. After a woman is shot there is blood on her chest and blood smeared on the floor under her. A few armed robberies, reckless driving with car crashes.

LANGUAGE 9 - 50+ F-words, one obscene gesture, many mild obscenities, many scatological references, many anatomical references, a few racial slurs used by African-Americans about other African-Americans.

CAVEATS

Be aware that while we do our best to avoid spoilers it is impossible to disguise all details and some may reveal crucial plot elements.

We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and older reviews are not as complete & accurate as recent ones; we plan to revisit and correct older reviews as resources and time permits.

Our ratings and reviews are based on the theatrically-released versions of films; on video there are often Unrated, Special, Director's Cut or Extended versions, (usually accurately labelled but sometimes mislabeled) released that contain additional content, which we did not review.
