Also with Elliot Cowan, Ben Hardy, Beau Gadsdon, John Brotherton, Mia Tomlinson, Madison Lawlor, Kate Fahy, Shannon Kook, Rebecca Calder and Steve Coulter. Directed by Michael Chaves. [Running Time: 2:15]
The Conjuring: Last Rites SEX/NUDITY 1
– A husband and his wife hug and kiss tenderly. A young man and a young woman kiss while seated on a bed until they are interrupted and the young man leaves. A young man and a young woman kiss at their wedding.
► We hear that a woman had been having an affair with another man.
► We see a newborn with a bare chest, abdomen and partial legs. A young woman wears a low-cut dress that reveals cleavage.
The Conjuring: Last Rites VIOLENCE/GORE 7
– A man and a woman enter a dark room and move through sculptures, dolls and a full-length mirror with carvings of angels across the frame on top; the woman touches the glass and it cracks, she gasps when she sees a figure in the mirror with ashen skin and glowing eyes, and we see a flash of an unborn child in her abdomen as she bends over in pain and screams.
► A woman is rushed to a hospital in labor and we see blood on her dress and the operating room drapes; the lights in the hospital go out and something with ashen skin and glowing eyes crawls across the ceiling as we hear the doctor say that the umbilical cord is wrapped around the baby’s neck and the baby is stillborn (we see some goo on the newborn); the mother holds the motionless child and cries praying for her to come back and the child cries and gasps. A dog barks at a young woman that seems to be possessed by a demon; the demon causes the dog to be lifted off the floor, slams it against the wall and throws it down (we hear a crunch like bones breaking, and we hear it whimper but we see the dog unharmed later). A young woman hangs from a rope in an attic and people struggle to cut the rope to free her before she dies as a woman screams; the rope is cut and the young woman falls through the floor and to the next level below; she has no pulse and a man performs chest compressions until he has a heart attack and a young man continues until she revives. A young woman that seems to be possessed by a demon reaches toward her father’s chest and we hear his heartbeat racing; he gasps and collapses struggling to take medication.
► A man sits in an office where his nose begins to bleed, the secretary suddenly is no longer at her desk, a doorknob turns and creaks and we see an upturned cross engraved on it; the man holds a cross in his hand and it bursts into flames burning his hand (we see his flesh blister) and he collapses on the floor; the man rushes out of the room and hangs himself with a power cord over a railing (we see his body fall and catch violently). A man sits on his bed and sees a figure (with ashen flesh and a maniacal smile) at the foot of the bed smiling at him; the man begins gagging and gasping for breath and is elevated off the bed (we see his eyes redden and he perspires); his wife awakens next to him and screams and he lowers back to the bed. Two men carry a heavy mirror down an attic ladder, one man falls and the mirror crashes down on his leg (he seems OK later).
► A young woman crouches in a corner of a room and recites a phrase in a strange voice, her mother enters the room and the young woman turns to face her (we see her flesh ashen and she seems to have blood on her mouth and her eyes are reddened). A teen girl’s stomach rumbles and she gags several times, she vomits (we see goo spray on the table) and then vomits a torrent of blood and pulls a shard of glass out of her mouth (we see a sink filled with blood and shards of glass). A woman washes dishes and when the sink will not drain she reaches in and pulls out a necklace with a locket, and she drops it back in the sink when it fills with blood and floods into the room (it stops when a man enters the room). A large light fixture falls from the ceiling and crashes onto the table where a family is eating, diners fall off their chairs and one teen girl has a bloody gash on her forehead. A young girl follows the sound of a doll crawling on the floor and calling “Mommy,” runs away screaming when the doll flips over and levitates off the floor, and then the child sees the reflection of a figure holding the doll and smiling maniacally. A teen girl watches a video and replays a part that shows a figure in the shadows. A woman sees a man carrying an ax enter a room with her, she struggles to get away from him and he swings the axe at another person hitting her in the head and filling the room with blood. A young woman coughs and her nose bleeds; she seems to be developing a fever.
► A young woman in a dressing room sees unusual reflections in the mirrors, an attendant returns to the room and climbs under the skirt of her dress for alterations, the young woman winces (as if she is poked with a pin) and sees that the attendant is actually a figure with ashen skin and a maniacal smile and its bones crack when it moves; the figure reaches up to touch her face (we see discolored flesh and malformed nails) she pulls away and sees a reflection of herself in the mirror that breaks through and grabs her by the throat causing her to scream and collapse. A young woman follows her mother’s voice into a dark attic and sees writing on the wall that reads, “Miss me?” A young woman hears a child’s voice coming from a room and follows it; she sees a doll sitting on the floor and it moves unnaturally with cracking bone sounds and stands up moving toward her, and she runs away and falls down a flight of stairs (she hits her head but seems OK). A woman hears noises and senses something in a room, she looks under a bed and sees the springs flex, she sees a figure moving under the bedspread and then it goes away; then a door creaks and she hears noises and voices.
► A man struggles to start his car, it eventually starts and he speeds on a road swerving and crashing into a fence when he sees a figure standing in the road in front of him. A woman is taken to the hospital in an ambulance after we hear that something pushed her down the stairs. A young man describes being a police officer and that he quit after a person held a shotgun to his face and pulled the trigger (it was loaded, but it misfired). A large mirror lifts off the floor and spins around violently while a man recites scripture; the mirror drops to the floor, the mirror moves along the floor and pins a young man under it (we see his leg become bloody and he gasps for air when his throat is pinned), a woman and a young woman touch the mirror and it cracks, and an explosion blows the windows out of the room.
► A doll crawls toward a young woman, saying “Mommy,” and then stops near her. Something in a dark pantry holds a phone cord while a woman walks back and forth and when the phone is yanked away from her, she thinks her young children are playing a trick on her but when she turns the light on in the pantry, the phone is on the floor with no one around. A woman hears noises while in her basement and when she turns on the lights, there is nothing there.
► A woman hears a sound in a dark room and sees a rocking chair with a large doll (with large eyes and strained grin) moving in it. A woman senses a presence in a restaurant and her young adult daughter senses something also; they both recite a phrase that helps them put it out of their minds until the mother sees a blue-tinged hand resting on her daughter’s shoulder and screams. A doctor tells a man that he cannot have another heart attack. A man walks through a house reciting prayers and sprinkling holy water and the water sizzles on the floor and stairs in the basement.
► A teen girl opens a large package that contains a full-length mirror with carved angels on the top of the frame and a crack in the glass. People talk about supernatural encounters and objects that are used as vessels of evil and conduits. Two teen girls carry a full-length mirror down stairs and out to the curb for garbage pickup; we see it being crushed in the back of the truck. A man describes objects locked in a room as being haunted, cursed or used in ritualistic practices. A man has a scar on his face and says that he got it during an exorcism. A teen girl kicks her older teen sister under a table.
► A young woman talks about her father hearing voices and feeling like someone was watching him; she goes on to tell us that she found him hanged (we see the man hanging from a rope in a dark room and the young woman screams), and soon after she began hearing voices and feeling like she was being watched. We hear that a man killed his wife and her mother using an axe and that the wife had been having an affair. People argue loudly about something trying to harm them and that they have to do something about it. A teen girl tells her older teen sister, “I’m gonna kill you,” when they argue. Two teen girls argue bitterly in a few scenes. People experiencing unexplained occurrences tell the press about what is happening in their house and we see the press gathered outside the house in many scenes. A young girl cries and tells her mother that she keeps seeing horrible things; the mother tells her how to push the images out of her head.

We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and older reviews are not as complete & accurate as recent ones; we plan to revisit and correct older reviews as resources and time permits.
Our ratings and reviews are based on the theatrically-released versions of films; on video there are often Unrated, Special, Director's Cut or Extended versions, (usually accurately labelled but sometimes mislabeled) released that contain additional content, which we did not review.
