Shut Up & Sing | 2006 | R | - 4.3.6

The Dixie Chicks are the subject of this documentary that lays out what happened after lead singer Natalie Maines said during a 2003 London concert, "Just so you know, we're ashamed the president of the United States is from Texas," because of her disagreement with the administration's desire to get the U.S. involved in a war in Iraq. Also with Martie Maguire, Emily Robison and Simon Renshaw. Directed by Barbara Kopple & Cecilia Peck. [1:39]

SEX/NUDITY 4 - Three nude women (we see their bare backs to the hip, bare abdomens, bare legs to the hip and their arms crossed over their bare breasts) with words stamped on their bodies pose for a photograph. Women wear low-cut tops that reveal cleavage in several scenes.
We see a baby's bare buttocks when she dances without her diaper. We see a woman's very pregnant bare belly during a sonogram exam in a doctor's office.
Two women discuss fertility problems and treatments.

VIOLENCE/GORE 3 - We see footage of war and combat (there are no clear images that include gore).
We see video of people protesting the Iraq war and other people protesting the protestors. People crowd and crush together in street protests.
We see a woman preparing for the delivery of her babies and then after the delivery holding the babies.
We hear that a woman has received a death threat, with very specific time, day and place. A woman talks about fearing being shot while she is performing onstage. A woman makes a comment about having sore nipples after nursing her babies.

CAVEATS

Be aware that while we do our best to avoid spoilers it is impossible to disguise all details and some may reveal crucial plot elements.

We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and older reviews are not as complete & accurate as recent ones; we plan to revisit and correct older reviews as resources and time permits.

Our ratings and reviews are based on the theatrically-released versions of films; on video there are often Unrated, Special, Director's Cut or Extended versions, (usually accurately labelled but sometimes mislabeled) released that contain additional content, which we did not review.
