Hustle & Flow | 2005 | R | - 7.5.10

Djay (Terrence Howard), a man who has grown tired of being a Memphis pimp and dreams of becoming the next big hit in the rap world, convinces a school friend who's a sound engineer to help him. Also with DJ Qualls, Ludacris, Anthony Anderson and Taryn Manning. Directed by Craig Brewer. [1:54]

SEX/NUDITY 7 - Women in a dance club dance on stages and around poles, wiggling and thrusting, while men watch; they are all scantily clad, with most wearing thongs that reveal bare buttocks and tiny tops that reveal cleavage and part of their bare breasts. A woman in a dance club straddles a man's lap and thrusts.
A woman's bare breasts are exposed while she dresses. A man walks into a dressing room at a dance club where several women are dressing (we see cleavage, bare breasts, backs, shoulders and buttocks). A woman wearing a skimpy outfit that reveals cleavage, bare abdomen and legs sits on a man's lap and he holds her around the waist. A woman wears a sheer bathrobe that reveals cleavage and the outline of her buttocks, a woman wearing a very short skirt uncrosses her legs and reveals her panties covered crotch, and two women wear skimpy outfits that reveal cleavage, bare abdomens and bare legs. We see a sign with a drawing of a nude woman (she has bare breasts) advertising a strip club.
A young woman wears a very short skirt (revealing bare thighs) and a short, low-cut top (revealing cleavage and bare abdomen); she gets out of a car, walks to another car where a man waits for her, she climbs in and they drive away (it is implied that her sexual services have been sold to the man in the car and they are going to have sex). A young woman climbs into the back seat of a man's car, the man joins her and she comes out of the car with money, and a young woman gets into another man's car and they drive off to have sex. An older man admires a younger woman, and another man makes arrangements for her to have sex with him in exchange for music equipment.
A man and a woman kiss passionately, and a man and a woman kiss and caress each other in a bar. Men and women dance together in a bar.
A man talks about the sex he and his wife had on his birthday. A man compares humans with animals and talks about a dog sniffing another dog and becoming aroused, using crude terms. We hear that a woman is pregnant from one of her liaisons as a prostitute.
A man shoves money down the front of his pants, rubs it around and then slams it on a counter top after a cashier insults him.

VIOLENCE/GORE 5 - A man reaches into a dirty toilet to retrieve something, that he then shoves into another man's mouth; he then punches the man repeatedly, the man being punched pulls a gun, and one of the men shoots a third man in the arm (we see blood on the wound).
A man punches a man in the face, and another man chases him carrying a baseball bat and threatening to hit him with it. Two men argue, and one shoves the other in the head.
Police hold guns on a man as they arrest him, they shove him onto the hood of a car, another man (a civilian) punches the arrested man in the face, and he is taken to the police car.
A man grabs a woman around the throat, they argue bitterly, he throws the woman out on the porch and then puts her crying baby on the porch with her. A man passes out on a bathroom floor after drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana.
A man and a woman argue bitterly, and a man and a woman yell at each other. A man talks about his father having died when he was young.

CAVEATS

Be aware that while we do our best to avoid spoilers it is impossible to disguise all details and some may reveal crucial plot elements.

We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and older reviews are not as complete & accurate as recent ones; we plan to revisit and correct older reviews as resources and time permits.

Our ratings and reviews are based on the theatrically-released versions of films; on video there are often Unrated, Special, Director's Cut or Extended versions, (usually accurately labelled but sometimes mislabeled) released that contain additional content, which we did not review.
