Why is “Red Rocket” rated R? The MPAA rating has been assigned for “strong sexual content, graphic nudity, drug use and pervasive language.” The Kids-In-Mind.com evaluation includes many sex scenes between a man and a young woman and a woman with partial nudity, a fully nude man shown twice, a couple of strip club scenes with partial nudity, discussions of porn movies and the porn industry, a multi-car crash with reports of injuries, a few fights with shoving and punching and resulting bruises seen, many arguments, a threat with a gun, drug dealing in a small town, and nearly 220 F-words and other strong language. Red Rocket VIOLENCE/GORE 4

 – A man punches another man in the stomach and he falls to the ground where the attacking man, a woman and a young man kick him (we see him with bruises on his body later).
► A woman cocks a shotgun and threatens a man if he shows up on her property again. A woman throws a glass coffee carafe at a wall over a man’s head and it shatters and splatters the wall with coffee; the two people argue and he grabs the woman aggressively. Two men and a woman barge into a man’s room where he is sleeping, they threaten him and take money he has hidden under the mattress, as well as drugs he has stashed elsewhere; the man jumps out the window, runs away (please see the Sex/Nudity category for more details) and pounds on the door of a woman that he thinks can help him.
► Two women and a man see police at the neighboring house and become upset about what’s happening as a young man is arrested. A man yells at a young man and runs into a house, hides in the bathroom and seems agitated. Two men argue with a man in a mall and accuse him of fraudulently pretending to have served in the military; they shove him and call out to other people around them that he is a liar and we later see him soaking wet from having been thrown in a fountain by the two men. A man yells at a young man and tells him that his girlfriend is with the man now and the young man becomes upset; the young woman yells, “No fighting” and she drives away with the man. Two men and a young woman argue about how they handled a situation and another woman intervenes. A man asleep on a bus is shown to have bruises on his arm and face.
► A young man swerves his car across lanes on a highway to be able to take an exit; we hear later that he caused a 22-car pileup when the semi-truck he cut off jackknifed. A woman threatens to call the police when a man won’t leave her property. A man and a woman (they’re estranged husband and wife) argue and yell at each other in several scenes. A man bikes frantically to a donut shop to see a young woman (the shop is closed when he gets there). We see refinery workers in several scenes and a young woman describes them as wanting to kill themselves when they get off their shifts. A man selling other men drugs offers to include synthetic urine to use for drug testing at their workplace. A man says that another man “sucker punched” him. A man points to a piece of land and says that that was the Texas “killing fields.” A young woman describes a body of water being full of pirate booty and that it was used during the slave trade. A man talks about a cat dying. We hear 2016 presidential campaign reports on TV in several scenes.
