After a US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raid, a man and his family are deported to Jamaica. In a last ditch effort to help, his teenage daughter (Yara Shahidi) tries to find a way to convince the authorities that they should all be allowed to remain in the US. Things become more complicated when she meets a young man (Charles Melton) and after spending the day together she has one more reason to want to stay.  - A car speeds through a city street, clips a biker and the rider is thrown onto the sidewalk (we see him later with bruises on his face and bandages on his hand and arm). A young woman nearly steps into a street in front of a speeding car but a young man pulls her back and they both land on their backs on the sidewalk (no injuries are seen). A man makes a sexually suggestive remark about a young man's girlfriend and the young man punches him in the face, the man then punches the younger man several times and the young man kicks the man in the groin causing him to moan (we see them with bruises on their faces and one man has a bloody lip).
► A man and a young man argue in a store and the man makes a racist remark about the young man's friend being a shoplifter. A man offers a young woman a hair care product to make her hair "less big" and she declines saying that she likes her hair big. A man threatens to throw away his daughter's possessions if she doesn't come home. During a subway train delay, the conductor shares a story with the people onboard about a day when a train was delayed causing his friend to be late for work and that day was 9/11 and his friend would likely have been killed in the terrorist attacks if he had not been late. A young woman describes life as a "random series of events until you die." A young woman tells a young man to leave her alone. A young man and his father argue about what the young man wants to do with his life and the father tells him, "You don't go to college, you're on your own."
► A flashback shows young people carrying signs while during an anti-gun protest march. A flashback shows two girls stealing candy from a shop. A flashback shows a ceremony where parents have their young child choose an item from several laid on a blanket to determine what path the child will follow (i.e. a stethoscope for a doctor, etc.).
► A young man describes his parent's business in black hair care products and that in the 1960s, wigs were made from Korean people's hair.
