The Swing Kids of the title are teens in 1939 Munich who are enraptured by the life-affirming rhythms of American swing music while rejecting the hate message of Adolf Hitler.
SEX/NUDITY 1 - No nudity, except for female breasts depicted on a set of old-time "racy" picture postcards.
VIOLENCE/GORE 4 - Violence occurs with great regularity. A man is shot while fleeing from the Gestapo, there are several gang-type beatings and a couple of all-out brawls. A boxing match turns savage and brutal and a musician is severely beaten by a gang of Hitler Youth. Though none of the violence is graphically explicit, neither is it "fake" movie violence. The director manages to convey the true pain of the violence involved.
LANGUAGE 5 - The F-word is invoked once, and it's addressed to a Nazi.
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Loyalty and friendship. Resolve and basic humanity are all examined and put to the test. The viewer is given a taste of how the barriers of right and wrong can be obscured through expert manipulation.
MESSAGE - We must constantly be on guard against corrupting influences.
