A western, in the Eastwood school of movie-making, with Mario Van Peebles as both director and star, and with a difference: most of the main characters are African-American.

SEX/NUDITY 7 - There are shots of nude male posteriors, scenes of men skinny-dipping, as well as of topless strippers. There's one clothed sex scene which takes place in a saloon. While little nudity is shown (the woman lifts her skirt), there are three participants, and they are actually carrying on a conversation with the saloon patrons, who are watching the whole thing. There's also another very explicit sex scene with lots of male and female nudity accompanied by groping, writhing, etc.

VIOLENCE/GORE 9 - The whole movie plays like one very long gunfight. There's lots and lots of violence and lots of blood and gore: plenty of people are shot -- some in slow motion -- someone is impaled, and there are explosions. One person has his eye shot out and there's Klan violence -- a man is actually nailed onto a burning church.

LANGUAGE 8 - All the typical four letter words (including the F-word and its derivatives) are used in abundance.

DISCUSSION TOPICS - Promiscuity, prostitution, gambling, betrayal, greed, murder, prejudice and racism.

MESSAGE - African Americans made many -- usually unreported -- contributions to the settling of the American west.
