"One of the 50 Coolest Websites...they simply tell it like it is" - TIME

Mumford | 1999 | R | - 7.2.5

Loren Dean plays an IRS agent-turned-psychotherapist in this comedy about the troubles and quirks of those in the small town of Mumford, U.S.A. Also with Hope Davis, Jason Lee, Alfre Woodard, Mary McDonnell, Pruitt Taylor Vince, Zooey Deschanel, Martin Short, David Paymer, Jane Adams, Dana Ivey, Kevin Tighe, Ted Danson, Jason Ritter and Elizabeth Moss. [1:36]

SEX/NUDITY 7 - Lots of sexual innuendo (including references to oral sex and masturbation) and lots of talk about sexual fantasies. A woman straddles a man and moans as they're having sex; we see her bare breasts. We see many mechanical naked female bodies (they're built to deliver intimacy and sexual gratification), but they look life-like; one woman-machine is only legs and hips, and we see it "bump and grind" rhythmically. Students in a classroom are naked, as is the teacher (we see her breasts, front and center); also, we see many scantily clad and naked women (some in erotic positions) in magazines, a woman's bare breasts and part of her bare behind while she's in bed, and a teenage girl in her bra (after she pulls off her sweater). The camera pans a woman's legs, from her feet up to her mini skirt, and a woman caresses her cleavage with her finger.

VIOLENCE/GORE 2 - We see a dead man and woman on television (no blood or gore -- it's supposed to be funny). A man gets punched and we later see a scar on his face.

LANGUAGE 5 - About 5 F-words, many anatomical references and several scatological references, mild obscenities and insults.

DISCUSSION TOPICS - Psychotherapy, honesty, lying, drugs, relationships, infidelity, IRS.

MESSAGE - Own up to who you really are and don't be afraid of admitting your mistakes.

CAVEATS

Be aware that while we do our best to avoid spoilers it is impossible to disguise all details and some may reveal crucial plot elements.

We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and older reviews are not as complete & accurate as recent ones; we plan to revisit and correct older reviews as resources and time permits.

Our ratings and reviews are based on the theatrically-released versions of films; on video there are often Unrated, Special, Director's Cut or Extended versions, (usually accurately labelled but sometimes mislabeled) released that contain additional content, which we did not review.
