"One of the 50 Coolest Websites...they simply tell it like it is" - TIME
Johnny Mnemonic | 1995 | R | - 2.8.6
Keanu Reeves stars as a futuristic information courier with too much data in his brain.
SEX/NUDITY 2 - A bare-chested man in boxer shorts is shown lying in bed as a scantily clad woman leaves his hotel room. We briefly glimpse the sides of a woman's breasts. One kiss, and a couple of sexual references.
VIOLENCE/GORE 8 - A number of people are slashed and/or bloody loose body parts are shown: a man's fingers are sliced off and we see them clearly; a man is sliced in two and as the sections of his body slide away we see what is supposed to be a cross-section of flesh, muscles and bones; a man is sliced across the throat; a man has his hands skewered to metal with a scalpel; a woman's hand is also skewered. And a woman has an arrow pierce her open mouth (bloody and very gory.) There are also a couple of decapitations (without blood but still gory). A man is electrocuted and we see open sores erupt on his body as he "melts" and fries. A man is run over by a truck. A couple of people fall to their deaths. Scenes of people dying in a hospital. A shoot-out, with some people dying from bloody wounds. A few explosions.
LANGUAGE 6 - About 25 F-words, about 20 scatological terms, and many milder obscenities.
DISCUSSION TOPICS - The future of technology, government conspiracies, the power of computers.
MESSAGE - Your life is more important than your career; it is OK to sacrifice one life if it will save millions.
CAVEATS
Be aware that while we do our best to avoid spoilers it is impossible to disguise all details and some may reveal crucial plot elements.
We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and older reviews are not as complete & accurate as recent ones; we plan to revisit and correct older reviews as resources and time permits.
Our ratings and reviews are based on the theatrically-released versions of films; on video there are often Unrated, Special, Director's Cut or Extended versions, (usually accurately labelled but sometimes mislabeled) released that contain additional content, which we did not review.
