"One of the 50 Coolest Websites...they simply tell it like it is" - TIME

Get Over It | 2001 | PG-13 | - 6.3.5

A high school senior (Ben Foster) is dumped by his girlfriend (Melissa Sagemiller) and to get her back he tries out for the school play, but soon begins to have eyes for his best friend's little sister (Kirsten Dunst), who is no longer the little girl she used to be. Also with Mila Kunis, Park Bench, Michael Boisvert, Jack Thomas Babcock, Kylie Bax, Ed Begley Jr., Jeanie Calleja, Megan Fahlenbock, Colin Hanks, Swoosie Kurtz, Zoe Saldana, Martin Short, Sisqo, Dov Tiefenbach and Shane West. [1:30]

SEX/NUDITY 6 - Lots of sexual innuendo and some candid sex talk. Lots of cleavage, scantily clad women, women in skimpy swimsuits, and women who clearly did not wear bras under their blouses. A young woman is shown running in slow motion in a bikini top while her breasts prominently bounce up and down. A young woman loses her bikini top and quickly covers her breasts with her hands. Some kissing and making-out scenes involving teens. We see a young man's buttocks when he's shown in his jockstrap. A young man holds a stage sword in front of his crotch and simulates thrusting. During a talk show about sex, the married, middle-aged and clothed hosts show a sexual position briefly. The husband then asks a guest if he wants to take his wife for "a spin." Teens go to a sex club. Several women in tiny furry bras and g-strings are shown dancing (it's dark and not much is visible). One teen ends up hanging from a harness, a woman in a dominatrix outfit comes out, but the proceedings are interrupted by a police raid. A young woman suggestively licks a young man's finger. A small dog is shown humping several objects: a potted plant, a man's leg, and a ball. A mother gives condoms to her teen son, and a mother refers encouragingly to her son masturbating (she uses a colloquial euphemism). Talk of children playing "doctor," and the girl seeing the boy's "package."

VIOLENCE/GORE 3 - Mostly played for laughs: A few punches are thrown, resulting in a few bruises. A brief sword fight during a dream sequence. A teen is hit squarely on the face by a basketball. We later see him with a bruised and slightly bleeding nose. A woman is hit and thrown high by a car (there's no gore or blood and the scene is presented as funny). We later see her in a body cast and we learn that she was in a coma for six years. While at a restaurant, a woman accidentally hits a wheelchair-bound man on the head with a teapot; he loses control and careens into several diners knocking them over, and they in turn roll off into other diners and the chef, someone almost chokes, other people lose their balance, etc. Eventually this chain of events leads to the restaurant catching fire; no one is injured. A woman aims a crossbow at a man thinking it's a prop. She pulls the trigger and then we see them in an ambulance with an arrow sticking out of the man's arm. A little blood surrounds the wound and upon seeing it she promptly faints. Someone's clothes catch fire. A man showing off his skill with nunchakus hits another man and a woman. The man loses his balance and breaks his legs. An explosion propels a man up and he falls into a sitting woman who is then thrown in the air and lands safely on a man's lap. We later hear that the first man's face was singed (we see a glimpse of his face and he looks a tad charred. Nothing gory is shown). A man falls off a roof (we don't see him land and no injuries are recorded). In a dream sequence a man falls down and almost into horse manure. The horse then urinates on his head. Sounds of flatulence, and references to someone defecating in a pool. A man vomits in a punch bowl and a few men inadvertently drink the chunky punch (we later hear that one is sick). A teen is apparently drunk.

LANGUAGE 5 - One mouthed F-word accompanied by giving the finger, almost 20 scatological terms, many anatomical terms, several insults and several religious exclamations.

DISCUSSION TOPICS - High school life, first love, playing "doctor," heartbreak, parties, teens drinking alcohol and getting drunk.

MESSAGE - Being dumped hurts a lot but life goes on and someone else will be there for you.

CAVEATS

Be aware that while we do our best to avoid spoilers it is impossible to disguise all details and some may reveal crucial plot elements.

We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and older reviews are not as complete & accurate as recent ones; we plan to revisit and correct older reviews as resources and time permits.

Our ratings and reviews are based on the theatrically-released versions of films; on video there are often Unrated, Special, Director's Cut or Extended versions, (usually accurately labelled but sometimes mislabeled) released that contain additional content, which we did not review.
