Queen Latifah stars as a hairdresser who is tired of being pushed around by the owner (Kevin Bacon) of the prestigious, high-priced beauty salon where she works. When she can't take it anymore, she quits and decides to open her own shop. Since she has made a name for herself some of her wealthy clients follow her, but she still faces many obstacles. SEX/NUDITY 5 - Men and women dance in a night club using suggestive and sexual movements with their hips; one woman dances rubbing her buttocks on a man, wiggling her hips and then they kiss.
► A teenage girl sleeps in her panties and a tank top. Throughout the movie women wear low-cut and tight-fitting clothes that reveal cleavage, bare abdomens, bare shoulders, bare backs and bare legs. A man opens his door and is bare-chested, and a man's shirt hangs open revealing his bare chest.
► A radio talk show host makes many references to sexual invitations and sex acts on her radio broadcasts. Another woman talks about how she believes men like women to be, "freaks in the bedroom." A woman talks about a part of her husband's anatomy being crooked and that she had to be contorted during sex. A woman tells a man that she is "checking out his big spear." A woman talks about using Chinese balls as a sex toy. A boy makes suggestive remarks to women and comments about their physical appearance ("...top and bottom," "milk sacks," etc.). Women talk about thinking that a man is gay and refer to sexual stereotypes.
► A man tries to force a woman to come with him to have sex. A woman grabs a man's buttocks as he walks by. A boy videotapes women's buttocks and makes crude remarks about their characteristics. Several women admire a man, a man admires a woman's buttocks, and a woman admires a man's buttocks while he is dancing.
► A man and a woman kiss, and a man and a woman kiss and hug. A man hugs a woman and they kiss passionately, and a man and a woman kiss on the cheeks.
VIOLENCE/GORE 2 - A man punches a man in the face. Three men grab a man and hold him down while we hear a hair trimmer buzzing and the man screaming. A woman with a hot curling iron threatens a man. A man plucks a hair off of his chest and winces.
► A woman walks into a restroom and another woman approaches her, and the first woman says "don't kill me." A man talks to a woman in a very condescending and insulting manner in many scenes. A man and a woman argue.
► We see a shop that has been vandalized, with furniture and fittings in disarray. A woman takes out her teeth and drops them in a glass of water.
LANGUAGE 4 - 16 sexual references, 5 scatological terms, 37 anatomical terms (13 mild), 51 mild obscenities, 7 derogatory terms for African-Americans, name-calling (stupid), 6 religious exclamations.
