"One of the 50 Coolest Websites...they simply tell it like it is" - TIME

Pushing Tin | 1999 | R | - 5.3.6

John Cusack and Billy Bob Thornton are competing air traffic controllers in this romantic comedy written by the guys behind "Cheers" and directed by Mike Newell, director of "Four Weddings and a Funeral." Also with Cate Blanchett, Angelina Jolie, Jake Weber, Kurt Fuller, Vicki Lewis, Matt Ross, Jerry Grayson, Michael Willis, Philip Akin, Mike O'Malley, Neil Crone, Matt Gordon and Joe Pingue. [2:04]

SEX/NUDITY 5 - Some sexual innuendo and kissing. A couple is lying in bed post-coitus; we see his bare shoulders and her breasts in an extended scene. A woman is dressing, obviously post-coitus, but all we see is some cleavage and her camisole. A man imagines a clothed woman moving on top of a clothed man. We see some women in cleavage-revealing outfits.

VIOLENCE/GORE 3 - In two scenes, a few men are knocked down and tumble many feet after a plane flies over their heads (all are uninjured). Some scuffles and a man kicks another in the behind. A man has a couple of bloody cuts on his face and later he's seen with bruises. Some reckless driving; drag-racing cars nearly collide. Plane turbulence causes people to nearly fall out of their seats. A couple of planes nearly hit each other midair.

LANGUAGE 6 - About 10 F-words and many anatomical references, scatological references and mild obscenities.

DISCUSSION TOPICS - Air traffic controllers, infidelity, plane travel, competition.

MESSAGE - You can be friends with your competitor.

CAVEATS

Be aware that while we do our best to avoid spoilers it is impossible to disguise all details and some may reveal crucial plot elements.

We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and older reviews are not as complete & accurate as recent ones; we plan to revisit and correct older reviews as resources and time permits.

Our ratings and reviews are based on the theatrically-released versions of films; on video there are often Unrated, Special, Director's Cut or Extended versions, (usually accurately labelled but sometimes mislabeled) released that contain additional content, which we did not review.
