VIOLENCE/GORE 4 - DeVito is the host of the late night horror movie and we see him in gruesome makeup: in two scenes he sticks a meat cleaver in his head and it spurts fake blood. A child finds his dead grandmother but we don't witness the discovery. A boy is kidnapped and when returned, we see him slightly bruised in a hospital bed. A man falls out of a tree into a pack of Dobermans, and while nothing is seen, we hear the dogs growling and biting. There's a chase scene through a house, and two boys come to blows.
LANGUAGE 2 - Ethnic slurs are mentioned three times, and some mild profanity approximately four times.
DISCUSSION TOPICS - The death of a parent, kidnapping, alcoholism, single parenthood.
MESSAGE - You can get through anything with the help of a loving parent.
CAVEATS
Be aware that while we do our best to avoid spoilers it is impossible to disguise all details and some may reveal crucial plot elements.
We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and older reviews are not as complete & accurate as recent ones; we plan to revisit and correct older reviews as resources and time permits.
Our ratings and reviews are based on the theatrically-released versions of films; on video there are often Unrated, Special, Director's Cut or Extended versions, (usually accurately labelled but sometimes mislabeled) released that contain additional content, which we did not review.
The Return - 7.7.5
The Brutalist - 8.4.5
The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim - 1.7.1
