VIOLENCE/GORE 5 - A scene where a young girls face is slashed, it is not shown, but the result is. A man is beaten repeatedly, along with other members of the community in the City of Joy. When the coordinator for the clinic and school refuses to pay for protection for the new building, a riot breaks out between lepers and townspeople who don't want them in their town, there are stabbings, bludgeonings and bloody noses.
LANGUAGE 3 - Some strong language.
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Poverty, determination of the important things in life, finding yourself.
MESSAGE - If you just let go of your fears, you can then go on to do what is right in your life. Running away from your problems is not the answer.
CAVEATS
Be aware that while we do our best to avoid spoilers it is impossible to disguise all details and some may reveal crucial plot elements.
We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and older reviews are not as complete & accurate as recent ones; we plan to revisit and correct older reviews as resources and time permits.
Our ratings and reviews are based on the theatrically-released versions of films; on video there are often Unrated, Special, Director's Cut or Extended versions, (usually accurately labelled but sometimes mislabeled) released that contain additional content, which we did not review.

Better Man - 7.6.10
The Last Showgirl - 7.2.7
