Sisu: Road to Revenge SEX/NUDITY 1

 – A man is shown shirtless and we see his bare shoulders, chest, abdomen and back covered with numerous scars. A man is shown wearing only boxers during a torture sequence (we see his bare shoulders, chest, abdomen and legs to the thighs, all very bloody).

Sisu: Road to Revenge VIOLENCE/GORE 9

 – A man talks to another man about how he killed the man’s wife and two children and describes how brave his son was in trying to protect his mother and younger brother, saying that he produced a knife that he used on the man and nearly took his eye; he goes on to describe “chopping them to pieces with a shovel.”
A man arms himself with pick axes and walks through sleeping cars where soldiers sleep: one soldier returns from urinating outside (we see him lean over a railing) and before he can raise the alarm, the armed man throws an axe hitting him in the mouth and pinning him to the door, and then closes another man’s bunk and stabs him several time through the bottom of the bunk (we hear crunching and see blood dripping on a soldier sleeping in the lower bunk); the man walks through the car and then into another sleeping car where a soldier drops a bottle on the floor and the man steps in the shards of glass, rolls on the floor getting a large piece of the bottle stuck in his back, and touches a mouse trap that closes on his fingers. A man on a speeding train walks along the roof of a train and is slammed by a pipe outside; he falls and crashes through the train and into a car with many armed men that open fire on him; he shoots back and we see a lot of bullet wounds with blood; one man’s fingers are shot off, then his hat and then the top of his head (we see blood and tissue as the man screams). A man seated at a table with other men slashes one man’s throat; the other men think the man is choking until he falls on his plate and blood soaks the table; the other men are shot and blood sprays and one man produces a case filled with money causing the killer to stop, but then shoots him in the chest with a shotgun (we see a large hole open as the man is thrown back). Many bloody bodies are seen in and around a train as a man ignites a missile attached to a train car spraying flames into several soldiers in the area (we hear yelling); the train car speeds along the tracks and when it catches up to the rest of the train, the man boards the train and fights with a man inside with punches and throws, they strangle each other, they hit each other with pieces of wood and one man is pinned under a table, one man is held under water in a basin and stabs his attacker in the leg with a fork (we see blood) and a man uses a metal pipe to beat the other man repeatedly (we hear crunching and the man spits blood; there is so much blood it is hard to see facial features); the missile moves inside the train, pins a man against some rubble and blows up when it touches his face (we see a large cloud of flames and smoke rise into the air) and a shock wave moves through the surrounding area.
A man is stopped on a road by two soldiers in a vehicle as another vehicle approaches from behind him; a man walks toward the truck and lights a cloth in a bottle of flammable liquid, the man opens his door slamming into the man holding the bottle and causing it to explode (we see the man in flames); another man tries to stab one of the truck’s tires and the driver reverses crushing the man and throwing his body onto the hood of the other vehicle when he drives away (we see the man’s very bloody face and head). An armed guard climbs into a truck as the driver speeds away and punches him several times (we see his bloody nose); the driver takes the guard’s gun and makes the guard load the ammunition clip, the guard gets out of the truck and runs away and is shot in the back (blood spurts), two other men are shot in the head and blood spurts, and another man in a vehicle is shot in the head and blood and matter spray on the vehicle’s window (we later see the gaping hole in the back of his head with blood and matter). Several motorcycles chase a man driving a large truck, they exchange gunfire, one rider jumps on the back of the truck and shoots into the cab until the driver swerves on the road throwing the rider off the truck and he is struck by another vehicle following them (blood sprays on the windshield and the driver uses windshield wipers to clear the blood); another cycle rider climbs into the cab with the truck driver and pushes him out the door, the driver shoots another cycle rider outside the truck and the cycle flips into the air and explodes; the last cycle rider is wrapped around the neck with a cable that pulls him onto the back of the truck and against a brace pulling his head off (we see the head separate and the flesh, bone and matter exposed at the neck).
Two planes fly over a truck and open fire on the vehicle and the driver; the driver swerves off the road to avoid the bullets and takes cover in a bar that the planes shoot into; the planes fly straight up and dive back down dropping explosives and shooting at the truck, the truck drives through columns of trees and one plane flies between them until the truck stops short, one of the plane’s wings is clipped off and the plane crashes and explodes with the pilot still onboard (we see the charred remains in flames). A plane speeds toward a man in a truck firing at him until he runs out of ammo; the pilot ejects and sets the plane to crash into the truck and the driver releases several timbers creating ramp that the plane rolls over and is launched into the air and it crashes and explodes; the pilot shoots his weapon at the driver until he runs out of ammo and is stuck in the belt of the ejected seat where he is blown up by another plane dropping explosives and the truck is driven off a cliff and crashes into the ocean where the man struggles to get the window open and save his dog (we see the dog swimming to the surface) and the man loses consciousness when trying to retrieve an item from the wreckage (we see him onshore as he revives later). A truck chasing another truck blows up and we see the bodies of the occupants in flames in the rubble. A man rigs an abandoned tank with explosives and when he ignites them at a border crossing gate the tank flips up and over the tall gate and slams to the ground; the driver is badly injured and we see him dribbling blood and he seems dazed as he pulls himself out of the tank and is held at gunpoint by a man outside before being dragged by the foot to another vehicle and kicked in the head (he falls unconscious).
A man restrained in a train car yells in anger and grief and lifts himself off the floor to free his wrists from ropes attached to a ring in the ceiling; he falls to the floor and retrieves a knife hidden under the skin of his leg (we see blood and hear squishing) and lies still as an armed guard enters the room to check on him; we hear a gunshot and yelling and then see the guard cut in half at the waist (we see blood and tissue) and another guard jumps off the speeding train and crashes into a pole or a tree outside (we hear a thud).
A man hangs off the floor from a rope around his wrists and another man whips him on the back with an electrified cable causing deep gashes in his flesh (we see the very bloody gashes open on his back and a puddle of blood on the floor under his feet) and the man yells in pain. A man bites the handle of a knife and seems to be pressing the blade into his leg (we see blood and the flesh moving); he later retrieves the blade during a fight (we see the flesh moving and blood oozes).
A man returns to his family home, finds personal items, and grieves over the deaths of his wife and two children; the man takes the house apart, piles the timbers in the back of a large truck and burns the remaining items leaving only the chimney. A man drives along a road where we see a body hanging from a windmill blade, the charred remains of a church and a cemetery. Several men and boys with axes and shovels approach a man and the man arms himself (they do not fight).
A man drives a truck to a border crossing station and his papers are examined by armed guards before allowing him to pass. We hear that after a war, the Soviet Union shifted its border with Finland and forced many Finnish people to leave their homes. A man shackled in a prison sits in the rain; an officer talks to him about the man’s killings and that he chopped several people into little pieces using a shovel and tells him that if he finds and destroys another man, he will be set free and given money. A man tells another man that he wants to beat the life out of him.
A man has a bloody hole in his cheek and he spits out a pellet (we see bloody saliva); he also has a bloody bullet wound on his arm. A man rows a raft made of several timbers near a shoreline where we see several decayed bodies. Several animal carcasses are shown hanging in a food storage car in a train.

CAVEATS

Be aware that while we do our best to avoid spoilers it is impossible to disguise all details and some may reveal crucial plot elements.

We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and older reviews are not as complete & accurate as recent ones; we plan to revisit and correct older reviews as resources and time permits.

Our ratings and reviews are based on the theatrically-released versions of films; on video there are often Unrated, Special, Director's Cut or Extended versions, (usually accurately labelled but sometimes mislabeled) released that contain additional content, which we did not review.
