Moana 2 SEX/NUDITY 1

 – Male characters are shown shirtless and we see their bare chests, abdomens and back; female characters wear off-the-shoulder tops that reveal cleavage, bare shoulders and abdomens. A young man is thrown on the floor where a man is bent over and we see part of his bare buttocks where his garment has shifted. A man flexes his pectoral muscles causing them to jump.

Moana 2 VIOLENCE/GORE 3

 – A man is struck by lightning and we see all the tattoos on his body washing away like dust as he falls motionless and we then see him floating lifeless in the ocean (he eventually revives). A young woman swims underwater to touch an island resting on the ocean floor, the island glows when she touches it and she falls motionless when she is zapped by lightning; a man swims to her and creates a large bubble around them while singing to her and trying to revive her and many ethereal people approach and sing along with him; glowing images appear on the young woman’s arm (like tattoos) and she revives.
A large cloud swirls in the sky with lightning flashing inside it, several funnel clouds swirl around it and toward the sea and cause large waves to wash toward a boat that rides on the crest of the waves a few times; a man is sucked into a cloud and uses a large weapon to cut a lightning bolt as a funnel cloud spins toward the boat and a shark bites the cloud before it hits the boat. A young woman opens a glowing portal, dives into it, and is taken to another place. A young woman cuts a boat’s mast and creates a kite-type sail that takes it away from storm clouds brewing overhead. A man uses a giant hook to pull an island from the bottom of the ocean to the surface; the rope attached to the hook is struck by lightning and the island sinks back underwater.
A giant clam with spiked teeth and numerous eyes opens and seems to close on a small boat as other boats struggle to get away. A giant ship manned by small “coconut” creatures sails toward a smaller boat and the smaller boat crashes into it; the coconut creatures shoot the people onboard with darts that immobilize them (the darts contain a neurotoxin). A ship sails into a giant clam and over a waterfall, throwing a young woman off the boat; the boat crashes and a large serpent creature with many spikey teeth rises out of the water and spits out acid that melts a hole in the ground. A giant jelly creature (looks like a giant slug) moves over several characters that have been immobilized covering them with a slime that reverses the effects of a neurotoxin; the creature then appears to sneeze and sprays out more slime. Many large sea serpents swim toward and surround a boat and a shark slams into it tipping it; a young man is grabbed by a serpent and a young woman on the boat is afraid that he will die until a man rescues him.
Several people are startled when lightning flashes and strikes the roof of the shelter where they are sitting; a young woman is apparently struck by the lightning and has a vision of an ancestor sailing and getting caught in a violent storm, she sees a giant sea creature swim past. We hear that a god put a curse on island people and separated them by destroying the currents that would help them traverse the ocean and that one island was sunk to the bottom of the ocean.
A man dangles from a rope and is wrapped with a series of shark teeth as a woman talks to him from the shadows in a threatening manner; he asks small fish (mudpuppies?) to climb the rope to retrieve a weapon for him and they try but are sprayed with goo (slimy goo is seen a few times) from a tube and fall to the ground.
While sailing on open water, a shark bites the side of a boat as a small pig onboard rushes out of the way before being bitten. Many bats swoop around a young woman in a cave. A young woman sails a boat alone with a small pig and a chicken on board in a few scenes. A young woman carries a hatchet-type tool/weapon with her and swings it into various things, sometimes causing damage like cutting a mast and cutting a rope holding a sail. A woman is seen with her hands bound by a glowing strand as she speaks to a man and he refuses to release her. A chicken screeches when it is told that it will die.
A young woman, a pig and a chicken fall from a ledge and crash onto the ground below (there are no injuries shown). A young woman carrying a spear runs through a jungle and jumps over a chasm followed by a small pig that collapses before jumping; the young woman is then shown with the pig tied to her back as she climbs a rock wall and as she reaches the top a chicken pecks her on the nose. A young man drops a log on the ground very nearly hitting a chicken.
A man refers to a chicken and a pig as “boat snacks” and “bacon and eggs” several times. A man says of another man, “He’s growing on me like a wart.” A woman says, “We’ll die by lightning.” A character says, “One way ticket to deadsville.” A young woman talks about someone stopping voyaging and that she wants to find out what happened. A young girl asks her older sister, what will happen if she doesn’t return from an expedition. A man on a boat says, “I’m gonna be sick” (we do not see him get sick). A man tells another man, “You look like a kidney stone.”
A young woman speaks to her grandmother and her ancestors in several scenes and we see them appearing with an ethereal glow and looking like ghosts. A tattoo on a man’s chest becomes animated and pokes him in the chest a few times; later the tattoo appears to pinch the man’s nipple and he complains. A tiny crab washes ashore and crawls out of its shell into a larger shell. A comet appears to explode in the sky and we see flashes like fireworks. An eagle swoops through the sky and crashes into a cloud causing lightning to flash.
Several people perform a ceremony asking their ancestors to guide a young woman as she leaves to find their home island.

CAVEATS

Be aware that while we do our best to avoid spoilers it is impossible to disguise all details and some may reveal crucial plot elements.

We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and older reviews are not as complete & accurate as recent ones; we plan to revisit and correct older reviews as resources and time permits.

Our ratings and reviews are based on the theatrically-released versions of films; on video there are often Unrated, Special, Director's Cut or Extended versions, (usually accurately labelled but sometimes mislabeled) released that contain additional content, which we did not review.
