The MPAA rating has been assigned for “some thematic elements and suggestive comments.” The Kids-In-Mind.com evaluation includes a couple of kissing scenes and some flirting scenes and discussions of love and marriage, a few people die of natural causes, there are a couple of discussions of a suicide and madness, and some strong language. Read our parents’ guide below for details on sexual content, violence & strong language.


Set in the Irish countryside, a woman (Emily Blunt) runs her family farm alone, while a neighboring farm is run by a man (Jamie Dornan) that she has loved all her life. However, he seems unaware, until an American relative (Jon Hamm) arrives and threatens to buy his farm, upseting the accepted balance. Also with Christopher Walken, Dearbhla Molloy, Don Wycherley, Clare Barrett, Darragh O’Kane, Abigail Coburn and Anna Weekes. Directed by John Patrick Shanley. [Running Time: 1:42]

Wild Mountain Thyme SEX/NUDITY 2

 – A man and woman kiss. A man and woman kiss and hug. A young girl in a tree watches a boy with admiration and becomes upset when another girl laughs at him for having pollen smeared on his nose (please see the Violence/Gore category for more details).
 A woman asks a man if he has thought of her naked or imagined her form. A woman asks a man if he is a virgin. A woman asks a man, “Are you a homosexual?” A young girl is described in a voiceover as being besotted with love for a neighbor boy. A man pesters his adult son about not being married in several scenes. A man describes his adult son as, “A bachelor to the bone.” A woman tells a man that she slept with a priest twice in her mother’s bed. A man describes marriage as a “practical partnership.” A woman tells a man that she kissed another man and he becomes upset and tells her that the other man is coming to ask her to marry him. A man tells a woman that he’s afraid of love.
 A woman wears a low-cut dress that reveals cleavage. A woman wears a short skirt that reveals stocking-covered legs to the upper thighs. Dancers wear tutus during a ballet performance that reveal cleavage and bare shoulders and legs to the hips with partial buttocks visible.

Wild Mountain Thyme VIOLENCE/GORE 3

 – A woman is taken in an ambulance to a hospital and we see people in the waiting area and her adult daughter later at the woman’s grave. A man shoots a crow out of the sky (we see the bird land on the ground motionless without visible blood). A woman drives erratically and slams into a tree (the car is wrecked; the people in the car seem fine). Two men argue and one throws something through a window shattering the glass. A woman shoves a man against a door when he tries to leave.
 A man tells a woman that her horse jumped the fence and she goes after it, cursing it. A man in a small boat stands in it, swinging a paddle and seeming to be yelling at something before a woman onshore calls to him and he falls in the water. A young woman rides a horse in the countryside and thunder rumbles over a mountain in the distance. A man and a woman climb a wall around a cemetery and the woman falls backward off the wall (we hear a thud but do not see any resulting injuries). A man trips and falls on a hill (we see dirt on his coat). Thunder claps loudly and it pours while a man stands outside a house; a sheet of water washes off the roof and onto him, soaking him. A horse kicks the inside of a barn repeatedly, loudly knocking things off the walls.
 A man says that another man tried to kill himself, but the shotgun only took off his lip. A man says of another man, “He’s not normal.” A woman cries after her husband dies and a man consoles her. A woman places flowers on her mother’s grave and weeps. People talk about a man’s funeral and a reference is made to a man taking the widow’s ham. A man talks about another man having drowned and that he had a stone tied to his neck (implying suicide). A young girl tells her father that she has no purpose; the man comforts her. A man tells his adult son, “Your mother would die again” if she could see the condition of their house. A man yells at his adult son and says, “You can’t even love a dog.” A man speaks dismissively of his adult son and talks about selling the family farm to another man. A man says that he couldn’t see colors any longer after his mother died. A man and a woman talk about leaving Ireland and their family farms. We hear that a boy shoved a young girl after the girl went after the other girl for laughing at the boy when he had pollen smeared on his nose. A man tells a woman that she should leave Ireland and that, “It’s no place for decent people.” A man and woman argue about a right of way between two properties and two gates installed to cross it. A man says, “I’m gonna kill that man one day, and the world will thank me for it.” A woman says, “I lost my sense of purpose.” A man says, “It’s a perfect day to hang yourself.” A man and woman talk about depression and suicide. A man says, “A man with feelings should be put down.” A man tells a woman, “Your temper’s rough,” and she blames quitting cigarettes. A man says that he believes that he is a honeybee.
 A woman says of a farm animal, “That bull is coughing like pertussis,” and a man says that he treated it for worms and that it is coughing them up. A woman says that she gave her mother a glass of water after they found her father dead and the glass still had the man’s false teeth in it.

A woman smokes a pipe outside a house, a woman smokes cigarettes outside in several scenes, a man using oxygen asks his adult son for his pipe and for him to light it (he does and the older man takes one drag from it and coughs), a man tells a woman that she should quit smoking, and a man smokes a pipe in a few scenes.
