Based on the eponymous Agatha Christie novel: Hercule Poirot (Kenneth Branagh) joins a friend on the Orient Express hoping for a vacation. However, his services are called upon when the train is trapped by an avalanche and a passenger is murdered. SEX/NUDITY 1 - A woman wears a low-cut dress that reveals cleavage in several scenes.
► A man kisses a woman's hand. A husband and his wife hug and hold each other in a couple of scenes.
► A man looks at a photo of a woman and speaks to it, saying, "My love." A woman speaks disparagingly to a man after he makes a remark and he moves toward her, makes a low groan sound and turns away. A man tells a woman, I mean no disrespect," and the woman responds, "You could mean just a little." A woman tells a man that people have accused her of being "Husband hunting." A man asks a woman if she is a prostitute and she says yes.
► A man asks for a room for 20 minutes or so and he is with a woman who is identified as a prostitute (sex is implied, although they do not go to a room).

VIOLENCE/GORE 5 - A man's mouth is covered as he is stabbed repeatedly and we hear crunching with each blow. A man is discovered murdered in his bed and we see his very bloody pajama top as a doctor reports that the man had been stabbed multiple times. A woman holds a gun under her chin and pulls the trigger (it does not discharge).
► A woman screams and we see her with a knife in her back (we see blood on the blade when it is pulled out of her back; she recovers). A man is shot in the arm (we see blood on his sleeve and hand). A man slams a man's head into a bar, punches another man and kicks a third (we do not see resulting injuries). A man kicks another man out of his room and the man breaks through the door and into the hallway (we see no injuries). A woman hits a man grabbing for her pocket in crowded area. Two men fight on a train, one holds the other around the throat and the other is struck on the head with a gun. A woman is struck hard in the face and we see her later with a scar on her cheek.
► A man chases another man on a snow-covered train trestle and they each fall a couple of times; one man falls to the ground below with a thud and we see him OK later. A man accused of stealing runs from police and he slams into a cane protruding from a wall, is knocked to the ground and he is arrested. We hear glass shatter and a porter goes to the door of a room where the occupant says everything is fine. A man yells at another man about stealing from a deceased man. A man punches a table in anger.
► A train speeding through snow-covered mountains is derailed when snow falls onto the tracks; people inside the train are thrown to the floor and possessions are also thrown. A man receives a threatening letter that reads, "Better watch yourself." A woman reprimands her aid. A woman describes a man as having, "A face like a turnip." A man requests to be seated at another table in a dining car and goes on to explain that he should be seated away from a black man. A man says to another man, "I do not like your face." A man holds a gun under a napkin on a dining table across from another man. We hear about a toddler being kidnapped and that the child's pregnant mother miscarried from the shock of the kidnapping and that she and the child died in childbirth. A man moans from tooth pain. A man talks about going to Middlesex to study medicine and that they allowed one per class (meaning a black student). We hear that a woman was wrongfully accused of the kidnapping and the murder of a child and the woman committed suicide.
► We see many people gathering at the Wailing Wall and police approach a man to ask for help in dealing with three religious leaders, one of whom is suspected of stealing a relic.
► A man steps in a large pile of dung and then steps in it with his other foot (we see the dung and hear squishing when he steps in it). Two dogs are shown standing on a dining table and a man is upset by this.
LANGUAGE 3 - 6 mild obscenities, 2 derogatory terms for Italians, 1 derogatory term for Germans, 1 derogatory term for Africans, 1 derogatory term for Jewish people, name-calling (amateur, morbid, rotten, liar, rogue Mafioso, pig), exclamations (Oh My Goodness), 2 religious profanities (GD), 6 religious exclamations (Good God, My God, God Rest His Soul, In God's Hands).
SUBSTANCE USE - A man takes an unidentified tablet, we hear that a man was sedated with barbital before being murdered, a woman is said to be under the influence of barbital on a regular basis, and we see many bottles of barbital in a woman's room. A woman holds a glass of champagne, a man drinks from a flask in a few scenes, a man pours champagne into passengers' glasses on a train, we see people holding drinks in a bar car on a train, and a man drinks from a glass at a bar. A man smokes cigarettes in a few scenes on a train, and a man is said to smoke a pipe (we do not see him smoke but we see the pipe).
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Murder, kidnapping, suicide, grief, fear, right and wrong, sin, guilt, racism, conscience, interracial couples, coincidence.
MESSAGE - Revenge can be a way to move on after tragedy.
