"One of the 50 Coolest Websites...they simply tell it like it is" - TIME
High Crimes | 2002 | PG-13 | - 5.5.4
Ashley Judd stars as a successful attorney whose husband (James Caviezel) is accused of war crimes and is arrested. She is shocked to find out that he has hidden his past as a classified military operative from her, but she suspects a cover-up and so decides to represent him at his court-martial, with the help of a retired lawyer (Morgan Freeman) who's familiar with the military justice system. Also with Amanda Peet and Adam Scott. [1:55]
SEX/NUDITY 5 - A man and woman kiss passionately, lie back on a sofa while they take each other's clothes off and begin to have sex. A man sits and a woman (in a tight-fitting, cleavage-revealing outfit) stands behind him and another (also in a tight-fitting, cleavage- revealing outfit) kneels in front of him and they begin to caress and kiss him; later we see one of the women lying on a bed covered by a blanket. A strip club scene shows women in thongs and bikini tops exposing bare buttocks and cleavage. A man and woman kiss and walk along a street embracing each other (she grabs his buttocks). A man and woman kiss and hug a couple of times, and a man flirts with and makes suggestive remarks to his wife. A man opens his door, bare-chested, and a woman comes up behind him wearing panties and his jacket (it is suggested that they have had sex). There are a couple of conversations about ovulation and pregnancy (a couple is trying to get pregnant). There are some discussions of a rape case (the descriptions are not detailed). A woman is shown in her panties and tank top while a man admires her. A man is seen bare-chested when he gets out of bed to investigate a noise, and the woman is shown in her short nightgown. A man is shown in his underwear (T-shirt and boxers). Women are shown in evening gowns that expose bare shoulders, backs and cleavage. Military personnel hoot at a woman as she jogs by.
VIOLENCE/GORE 5 - We see several scenes of what we are told is an attack on a village in El Salvador in 1988: the scenes show soldiers gunning down women, children (we see one boy thrown to the ground), elderly men and we see bodies with bloody bullet holes. A man is shot and we see a spurt of blood through his shirt as he falls to the floor; the wounded man and the shooter fight over the gun; they punch, kick, shove each other and they fight with planks and a wrench. A man holds a man in a chokehold, the man gasps and falls limp to the ground and we see blood pouring from his mouth. A car is sprayed with oil, slips along the road, falls off the road and rolls into water (we see the driver in a hospital bed later, and hear that she lost her baby, and see the passenger in a neck brace). A man is dragged out of a bar, kicked and punched by several men (we see him being patched up later with some blood). Two men fight with punches, kicks and shoving. A woman is hit on the head, she falls onto a table and then lands on the floor (we see her bruised eye and face later) and a man holds a gun to her head. There are several discussions in varying detail of villagers having been shot. We see people in a café, watch a bomb being thrown inside and see the explosion throw bodies through the air (we see the aftermath with bloody corpses on the ground; this scene is shown several times). A woman talks about her husband having been murdered. We see an explosion and hear that a man was wounded when a window broke and he was hit in the eye. A man grabs a woman's face and she hits him in the head with a glass. A woman threatens a man with a gun. Two people walk along a street, there's a bright flash and they are both tackled to the ground by men with guns drawn. Two people crash through a plate-glass window and run into the dark. A man punches a wall and tears up a bed in frustration. Two women (they're prostitutes) fight over a man. There are a few tense scenes when a woman thinks she's in danger: in one scene she thinks she's being chased by a truck; in another, as she approaches her house a man gets out of a car and comes up to her; and in another a man drives her to a deserted field and she thinks he's going to kill her. There are some discussions of a rape case (not much detail). A woman throws a drink in a man's face and yells at him. There are a couple of discussions of a woman having had a miscarriage.

CAVEATS
Be aware that while we do our best to avoid spoilers it is impossible to disguise all details and some may reveal crucial plot elements.
We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and older reviews are not as complete & accurate as recent ones; we plan to revisit and correct older reviews as resources and time permits.
Our ratings and reviews are based on the theatrically-released versions of films; on video there are often Unrated, Special, Director's Cut or Extended versions, (usually accurately labelled but sometimes mislabeled) released that contain additional content, which we did not review.
