"One of the 50 Coolest Websites...they simply tell it like it is" - TIME
The Blair Witch Project | 1999 | R | - 1.3.10
In this suspense/horror movie, three film students shooting a documentary about a murderous witch who supposedly haunts a Maryland forest get lost deep within the woods. With Heather Donahue, Michael C. Williams, Joshua Leonard, Bob Griffith, Jim King, Sandra Sanchez, Ed Swanson and Patricia Decou. [1:22]
SEX/NUDITY 1 - A brief reference to an orgy; we see a man's bare chest.
VIOLENCE/GORE 3 - We see what looks like bloody body parts wrapped in a shirt and what could be the face of a very decomposed corpse; we also see a dead mouse. We hear a story about several children being murdered and another about a group of men who were found gutted and tied together with words carved into their faces. Some shoving and yelling; a camera is knocked out of a woman's hands. We hear what sounds like screams from a person in pain. A child puts his finger in his nose, then his mouth. A brief discussion of flatulence. (Note: The movie is extremely suspenseful and has many non-violent, non-gory but nevertheless very frightening scenes; the film was marketed as a true story in order to enhance its mystique, but it is wholly fictional.)
LANGUAGE 10 - About 130 F-words, many anatomical references, lots of scatological references, many mild obscenities and a profane finger gesture.
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Myths, murder, evil, wilderness survival.
MESSAGE - There's some truth to the Blair Witch myth. Camping in the Maryland woods can be very dangerous.
