Unleashed | 2005 | R | - 7.9.7

A criminal (Bob Hoskins) has made a virtual slave of another man (Jet Li) by treating him like an animal and making him wear a dog collar around his neck -- raised to be a lethal fighter he will attack relentlessly when his collar is removed. After a car accident, the fighter is befriended by a blind piano tuner (Morgan Freeman) who teaches him about the gentler side of life. Also with Kerry Condon and Vincent Regan. Directed by Louis Leterrier. [1:43]

SEX/NUDITY 7 - A man takes pictures of a woman who poses for him wearing a short, low-cut dress that reveals her legs and cleavage; she leans against a car, he stands behind her and pulls up her skirt, they go into an office, he pushes her back onto a table and pulls off her panties (we see her bare thighs), he turns her around, pushes her onto the floor, moves behind her and thrusts briefly -- she sees another man watching them and runs away.
A woman lies back on a desk, her dress is open revealing her bare breasts, a man stands between her legs and prepares to thrust when they are interrupted by another man sitting at the desk.
A woman showers, a man enters the bathroom through a window (we see her bare breasts, buttocks, abdomen and legs) and she covers herself with a sheer shower curtain (we still see flesh, although there is no detail).
A man opens a drawer where there are photographs of men and women kissing and fondling each other. A man has a dream that shows a man with an exaggeratedly long tongue kissing and licking a woman's neck. A young woman kisses a man on the cheek tenderly and a man touches a young woman's hand when reaching into a bucket of popcorn.
A man tells another man that he had sex with his mother every day (using crude terms). A man asks another man, "Do you want a woman? You've never had a woman." A man talks about a dream that he had where there are scantily clad women serving him drinks and he makes references to parts of their anatomy rubbing against him.

VIOLENCE/GORE 9 - A man is kicked off of a platform and falls into a ring where another man waits to fight him: he is punched and kicked repeatedly, his face is pushed close to spikes against the wall, a weapon is thrown into the ring, and one man picks it up and swings it slashing the other man's shirt (there's no blood); several other people jump into the ring and begin attacking the man with rapid punches and kicks and he is picked up and thrown, more weapons are tossed in, the man is slashed at, fends off his attackers, gets hold of a spear and stabs one man in the foot with it (the man screams), while another man is hit on the arm and leg with a sledge hammer (we see the limbs bend when they break), a woman is hit with a sledgehammer knocking her down (we see the combatants writhing on the floor), and a man shoots one of them several times in the chest (blood spurts and sprays).
Several men go into a room where there are several other men, one man removes a collar from around the neck of another man and tells him to attack: the man begins to beat the other men in the room relentlessly, he punches, kicks, head-butts repeatedly, jumps on a man's back (we hear bones crunching and cracking), he grabs a clump of a man's hair and kicks him pulling out the hair (we see him with hair in his hand), hits a man in the throat with his elbow several times, pounds a man's head on the floor many times, and when a man shoots at him, he kicks a desk and then slams the man's head against it.
A man kisses a woman's neck, begins to caress her clothed breast, the woman pushes the man away and hits him in the head with a vase; the man shoots her in the head (we see blood and matter spray and her hair flips from the impact) while her young son watches.
Men go to an office to collect money from a man whose men grab them and beat them repeatedly with sticks (we see the men being hit and kicked and see them afterward with bloody wounds); one of the men being beaten gets a stick and uses it to break a man's leg (we see it bend backward and hear a crack), another man is thrown through a wall and several others are punched and kicked, one is punched in the head, one is kicked in the chest (we see bloody noses and bruised faces) and one man stomps on another man's crotch (we hear him whimper).
A man is taken from place to place where he is unleashed on many men whom he pummels; we see men being punched and kicked, and one man is thrown out a window. A man is taken to a fight club where he enters the ring along with a tall man wearing a helmet with spikes on it and a chain mail vest; one man punches the other man in the throat three times, the man coughs blood out of his mouth and falls to the floor dead. Two men fight in a ring, one man cracks the neck of the other (we hear a crunch) and he falls to the floor motionless; the dead man is taken out of the ring by being pulled into the air by one leg.
A man slides down the inside of a chimney, he is attacked by a man with a long knife, they fight, one man is kicked out a window, catches onto a cable that's cut loose and the man falls and jumps into an apartment window; the other man punches through the door, and the two men continue to fight with many rapid punches and kicks as a woman who had been showering watches in terror: one man bites the other man on the chest tearing out a piece of flesh (we hear a tear and see a bloody spot on his chest), one man is kicked out the window, the other grabs him, his pant leg tears and he falls crashing onto the roof of a car.
A man hits a man in the chest and face repeatedly (we see his very bloody face), twists his hand back, breaks it at the wrist (we hear a crunch), pins him on the floor, raises his fist to punch him, and the man on the floor goads him telling him, "kill me" repeatedly; another man hits him over the head with a flower pot and knocks him unconscious.
A large truck slams into the side of a car, pushes it along a roadway pushing in its side (we see passengers inside with bloody wounds), and three men from another car get out and shoot guns at the damaged car hitting the men inside (we see bloody bullet holes in their clothing and it is implied that two of the men are dead).
Many men with sticks and chains come to fight with one man who kicks and punches them; several are knocked down, he flips and lands hard on one man's stomach (we hear a crunch), and four men chase him onto a roof where he continues to fight them.
We see the end of a fight between six men: three men lie unconscious with bloody faces and the three other men stumble away with bloody faces (one man cleans himself up and cringes when alcohol is applied on a cut across his nose).
A man has a very bloody wound on his arm, blood drips on the floor and he collapses. A boy charges two men and he kicks one, who hits the boy in the face twice and another who tries to hit him but is stopped (we see the boy with blood on his face).

Two men chase a man and shoot at him, and three men on a street outside shoot through an apartment window at him. Two men chase a third man into a store, they hit him a few times, he gets away, they tackle him and kick him repeatedly while he is on the floor, and they pick him up and throw him into a glass refrigerator door that shatters and he slumps to the floor. A man hits a man in the head then holds a gun to his head while yelling at him.
A man has a dream that shows a man with an exaggeratedly long tongue kissing and licking a woman's neck and then we see a splatter of blood on a wall. A man has a trickle of blood on his forehead after a fight with many men.
A man opens a drawer that contains photographs of men after they have been brutally beaten (we see them very briefly). A man is thrown into a cage in several scenes. A man punches a punching bag until the seam breaks and sand pours out of it.
A man touches a collar on a man's neck causing the man to recoil and grab his hand. A young woman talks about her father having died (presumably from an illness) and then her mother dying in a car accident. A man wears a heavy metallic collar around his neck through most of the movie and when it is removed periodically we see that his neck is scarred from it. CAVEATS

Be aware that while we do our best to avoid spoilers it is impossible to disguise all details and some may reveal crucial plot elements.

We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and older reviews are not as complete & accurate as recent ones; we plan to revisit and correct older reviews as resources and time permits.

Our ratings and reviews are based on the theatrically-released versions of films; on video there are often Unrated, Special, Director's Cut or Extended versions, (usually accurately labelled but sometimes mislabeled) released that contain additional content, which we did not review.
