SAW X SEX/NUDITY 3

 – Men and women dance in a nightclub and a man and a woman flirt and talk about leaving together; when they get outside, the woman asks the man for money and the man declines and tries to rape her (please see the Sex/Nudity category for more details).
A man and woman hug and kiss a couple of times. A man and a woman hug tenderly.
A shirtless man is chained to the ceiling with a machine attached to his waist and we see his bare chest and part of his abdomen (please see the Violence/Gore category for more details). A young woman wears a low-cut dress that reveals cleavage.

SAW X VIOLENCE/GORE 10

 – A young man is strapped into a chair with tubes attached to his eyes and a metal framework clamped onto his hand with wires attached to his fingers; he screams as he is directed to turn a knob that breaks his fingers one at a time (we see them bend back unnaturally and hear them snap) and eventually his eyes are sucked out of their sockets through the tubes as he continues to scream and we see them drop into a container with bloody bits visible (it is implied that this takes place in a man’s imagination).
A young man wakes up strapped to a pillar and with explosives cabled to his arms; he is instructed to use the blades that are taped to his hands to cut the explosives off his arms and he does; we see a lot of blood spurting and gushing from his arms and we hear squishing sounds as he cuts the flesh and flaps of flesh are pulled away as he yanks the explosives free, they detonate, and rubble is thrown around the area as he huddles on the floor in a puddle of blood, whimpering.
A woman is shown strapped in a seated position with a razor wire around her body at the level of her neck and she is instructed to fill a container with enough bone marrow to open a lockbox with a key by cutting off her leg using a razor wire cutter; she initially refuses, yelling threats, then begins cutting and screaming (blood pours and sprays), we see the wire pulling the flesh up as it tears away and the leg falls to the floor, she inserts a suction into the leg stump that draws out blood and marrow (we see it pouring onto a scale) and when the timer runs out, the other razor wire moves through her neck and cuts her head off (it rolls onto the floor and her body flops to floor with blood pouring).
A man is strapped into a wheelchair, he is zapped by something around his neck and head and he relents and uses a surgical drill to remove part of his scalp and skull exposing his brain (blood gushes from the open wound), he pulls out some of his brain tissue and puts it into a jar and it is weighed until the timer runs out and heating elements inside a metal mask glow as the mask closes around his head and face; his body thrashes as he yells and then stops moving (we hear sizzling).
A young woman chained at one wrist and one ankle is lifted off the ground and told to use a sledgehammer to free herself as a radiation machine glows in front of her; she swings the hammer several times to break her foot and ankle as her face is burned by the radiation and she screams, she then swings the hammer again to break her hand and wrist and is burned again by the radiation (we see her fingers bending unnaturally); she falls to the floor moaning and we see charred blisters on her face.
A man and a woman are locked in an office where gas is released and they both cough (we see blisters developing on the man’s hands and face), the woman finds a vent to breathe through, the man pulls her away, they fight and she stabs him in the abdomen (blood pours from the wound); he falls to the floor and we see his eyes turn white from exposure to the gas. A woman cuts a dead woman’s abdomen open, puts her hands in the open cavity and pulls out blood-covered intestines that she uses to lasso a table and pull her cellphone close enough to reach and as she makes a call, she is tasered and falls to the floor. A woman steps on a wounded young woman’s neck on the floor and we hear it snap as she kills her.
A young boy is locked into a neck shackle and he and a man stand on a platform where they are held down and copious amounts of blood are poured on their faces; they gag and try to breathe (the torture technique resembles waterboarding and the nozzles above them are turned on and off). A young woman seated in a bathroom stall (fully clothed) hears footsteps outside the stall door and when she opens it holding a bottle of mace, another door slams her in the face, she falls to the floor with a bloody nose, she is sprayed with the mace and screams as the scene ends. A man is tasered in the face and he thrashes briefly on the floor. A man is held with a gun to his head. Two men drive a van in front of a taxi causing it to stop, the men get out of the van holding guns and wearing masks, take a passenger out of the taxi threatening to shoot him and put him in the back of the van. A man with a gun searches through a dark warehouse and shoots at what he thinks is a person wearing a pig mask; it falls over and we see a person’s severed head under the mask and the man is struck hard in the head with a heavy flashlight (we see him with a bloody gash on his face later).
A man and a woman leave a nightclub together and when they get outside, the woman asks the man for money, he declines, pushes her into the backseat of a car and attempts to rape her until someone outside the car shatters the window behind the man and incapacitates him; he then pulls the woman out the other side of the car as she screams.
A man holds a blade to a young boy’s throat. A woman hears noises in her house, checks security cameras and sees someone on her roof just as they break through a window above her, the woman runs out of the house, into a car and as she opens the garage door, and she is injected with a sedative by someone in the seat behind her. A woman slaps another woman hard in the face.
Three women and a man are shown chained and with various mechanical devices attached to their bodies in a dingy warehouse setting; they all plead with a man and a woman to save them and set them free. A man is chained around his wrists and hangs from a ceiling and has a machine strapped to his waist that has blades on the front positioned at his abdomen that begin to move when the machine is engaged and the man screams as the scene ends. A man returns to a facility where he had surgery and cancer treatment and finds it abandoned with all the equipment gone (he becomes angry).
A man is told that he will be awake for brain surgery and we see him on a table, a scalpel cuts a portion of his scalp away (we see the bloody blade), an image is projected on a screen that magnifies a portion of his brain and we see surgical instruments moving around the brain tissue.
A man in a hospital bed is shown motionless with tubes attached to him as a hospital staff person rifles through his belongings and prepares to steal his watch and wedding band; the staff person sees that he is being watched and returns the items before leaving the room. A man undergoes a medical scan and we see flashing lights and a pattern is projected onto his face. A man is shown with a bandage on his neck and coughs saying he had surgery to remove a tumor.
A doctor tells a man that he has months to live. People in a cancer help group session discuss the physical and emotional pain of having cancer. A man talks about a groundbreaking cancer treatment and that he is in total remission. A young man talks about an Aztec ruler that would cut the hearts out of his subjects and roll them down stairs.
A young woman and a man gag several times but we do not see them vomit. A man shows another man a long, thick scar on his abdomen. A man wakes up after surgery and we see a bandage wrapped around his head.

CAVEATS

Be aware that while we do our best to avoid spoilers it is impossible to disguise all details and some may reveal crucial plot elements.

We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and older reviews are not as complete & accurate as recent ones; we plan to revisit and correct older reviews as resources and time permits.

Our ratings and reviews are based on the theatrically-released versions of films; on video there are often Unrated, Special, Director's Cut or Extended versions, (usually accurately labelled but sometimes mislabeled) released that contain additional content, which we did not review.
