"One of the 50 Coolest Websites...they simply tell it like it is" - TIME

Next Stop Wonderland | 1998 | R | - 3.1.6

A recently-dumped woman and a plumber who wants to be a marine biologist seem to be the perfect match but always miss opportunities to meet each other. With Hope Davis, Alan Gelfant, Philip Seymour Hoffman, H. Jon Benjamin, Cara Buono, Sam Seder, Holland Taylor, José Zuniga, Robert Stanton, Callie Thorne, Larry Gilliard Jr., Jason Lewis, Roger Rees, Victor Argo, Lyn Vaus, Ken Cheeseman and Bronwyn Sims.

SEX/NUDITY 3 - Lots of sexual innuendo (including references to homosexuality). Several passionate kisses. A woman strokes a man's clothed thigh; a man briefly fondles a woman's clothed breast as they're kissing. In a classroom, we see a drawing of a male fish's sexual organ (there's also some discussion of how fish reproduce). We see a woman in a bra and a woman wearing a T-shirt and panties.

VIOLENCE/GORE 1 - Several men are involved in a scuffle. A woman lightly hits a man. We hear a couple arguing loudly, then some glass breaking. We see bloody water in a fish tank.

LANGUAGE 6 - 3 spoken F-words and 2 mouthed F-words, several anatomical references, many scatological references, many mild obscenities and several insults.

DISCUSSION TOPICS - Rejection, death of a parent, ambition, crime organizations, activists, homosexuality, lying, dating, being single, personal ads.

MESSAGE - Finding Mr. or Ms. Right could be a matter of meeting someone who's been right next to you all along.

CAVEATS

Be aware that while we do our best to avoid spoilers it is impossible to disguise all details and some may reveal crucial plot elements.

We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and older reviews are not as complete & accurate as recent ones; we plan to revisit and correct older reviews as resources and time permits.

Our ratings and reviews are based on the theatrically-released versions of films; on video there are often Unrated, Special, Director's Cut or Extended versions, (usually accurately labelled but sometimes mislabeled) released that contain additional content, which we did not review.
