The MPAA rating has been assigned for “violence, sexual content, language and some nudity.” The Kids-In-Mind.com evaluation includes a sex scene with partial nudity, a couple of kissing scenes, references to sex and infidelity, several bloody deaths by gunshot, from a thrown axe, a drill press to the head, a stabbing with a lot of blood shown, one death by natural causes, several punches, reports of a missing teen girl, a jewelry store robbery, many arguments, and nearly 30 F-words and other strong language. A woman (Allison Janney), tired of not being significant to the people around her, concocts a plan to get attention after her husband (Matthew Modine) dies. Pretending her husband is actually missing, she starts searching for him, relishing her minor local celebrity status.  – A wife follows her husband to a motel where he meets another woman; the wife enters the room as they are having sex (we hear moaning and grunting) and we see the man thrusting from behind the woman kneeling on the bed; we see cleavage, one bare breast and his chest, abdomen and bare buttocks (please see the Violence/Gore category for more details).
 Two women kiss. A man and a woman kiss.
 A police officer opens a drawer in a closet in a woman’s house while searching for her and finds many sex aids and toys. A woman talks about her partner giving her a lot of sex if she were to give her some expensive jewelry. A married man talks to a woman on the phone and asks what she is wearing; she tells him, “I’m not wearing nothing,” and makes a sexual reference as the man’s wife enters the house and he hangs up.
 A man receives a photo on his cellphone of his pregnant wife and it reads, “They kicked.” A woman wears a low-cut T-shirt that reveals cleavage in many scenes throughout the movie.

Breaking News in Yuba County VIOLENCE/GORE 7

 – A woman draws a gun on a man in the office of a bank, another man holds a gun to the man’s neck and the man is shot in the back of the head (blood spurts and sprays). A woman is shot in the chest and falls dead onto a sofa (we see blood) and a man pours gasoline on her. A woman’s head is placed in a drill press and the drill is lowered toward her as she screams and the camera turns away (we see blood splatter on the man handling the press). A man shoots a house door and enters and shoots in several rooms; a woman in the house hides in the kitchen, throws hot food on the man and runs away, he searches through the house for her shooting in each room, she stabs him in the back several times, and then in the chest while he lies on the floor (a lot of blood sprays and spurts on the man, the woman and in the room). A man holds a gun on a woman as he forces her to dig a hole, he tells her to get into the hole and she protests as two police officers arrive pointing guns at the man; the man shoots one officer (he falls dead with a bloody abdominal wound), the other officer shoots at the man and he shoots her twice (she falls to the ground with bloody wounds on her shirt and collapses dead). A woman with an axe charges into a room toward a man and another woman, the man hits the woman and knocks her to the floor and then shoots her; we see that the axe had been thrown and struck another woman in the chest (the axe is sticking out of the woman’s chest and we see blood); the man drags the woman with the axe out by the leg and sets the building on fire as he leaves. A man holds a gun on two women, he questions them and yells at them; he shoots one woman in the knee and she screams (we see blood). A woman holds a gun on another woman taped into a chair, and the woman discharges the gun and shoots the other woman’s ear off (we see blood and the piece of ear with an earring in it).
 A man punches another man in the face, he falls back complaining of having swallowed his tooth and we see his bloody mouth with a tooth missing. A man and a woman enter a store and argue with a man working there for information; the first man slams the man’s head on a table and a woman in the store approaches with a handgun, threatening the first two, until the first woman head-butts her in the face and takes the gun away (we see the woman with a bloody nose); the first man twists the second man’s arm behind his back and holds him by the hair, threatening him, as the first two leave the store. A man slams another man’s head onto a plate of food in a restaurant and jabs him in the neck with a fork (we see a trickle of blood and food debris on his face). A woman with her hands tied and tape over her mouth is placed in a chair, and a man rips the tape off her mouth and slaps her hard in the face. A wife discovers her husband having sex with another woman in a motel room (please see the Sex/Nudity category for more details) and when the husband sees her, he grabs his chest and collapses dead on the floor (presumably due to a heart attack) and his lover screams and panics a few times; the wife yells at the other woman and slaps her in the face.
 A woman digs a hole in a playground and buries a man in the hole. A tow truck slams through a mall entrance and a man and woman break into and rob a jewelry store, and then speed away. Several teen boys are brought into a police station in handcuffs; one boy jumps up on the counter and yells until an officer tases him in the chest and he falls flat on his back twitching. A woman holds a knife and asks a man if he would rather have one eye or one ear. A woman squeezes and twists a man’s hand after shaking it and he winces. A woman puts her arm around another woman seated next to her and puts her fingers in the woman’s mouth (she gags) while threatening her. A police officer with her gun drawn walks through a house looking for a woman. A police officer handcuffs a woman and takes her to a police station for questioning. A woman yells at a man in a police station and shoves him. A woman becomes angry, throws things around a kitchen screaming, breaks her TV and slams it to the floor.
 A man threatens to cut a woman’s fingers off with garden shears. Many news reports and discussions of a 13-year-old girl missing and the search for her. A woman reports her husband missing on the TV news. Two women argue about a man having gone missing. A woman argues with her boss about questioning a witness. A woman tells another woman, “I hope a dog bites you in the face.” A woman accuses a man of stealing from a store in a few scenes. A woman talks to a man (he is a restored citizen) about stealing and says that she hopes he will consider her for his next crime job. A woman yells at another woman and tells her to never yell her name unless she is “dying or receiving pleasure.” A woman asks, “Were you raised in a barn,” after her husband leaves the door for the house open. A woman complains that life is “boring and then you die.” A woman is embarrassed when she thinks her co-workers are singing happy birthday to her, but they are singing to another woman. A woman talks about when she was younger and someone said to her sister, “Your sister is not pretty” and the sister responded, “She’s just my half-sister.”
