"One of the 50 Coolest Websites...they simply tell it like it is" - TIME
The Prophecy | 1995 | R | - 3.6.5
Eric Stoltz and Christopher Walken star as two very un-cuddly angels as humans get trapped in the middle of a war in heaven.
SEX/NUDITY 3 - A poster of three naked women with their derrieres toward us (they're bent over) is clearly seen in the background. Also, we briefly see the cover of a Playboy-type magazine: a woman is partly covering her nude breasts. A non-sexual kiss.
VIOLENCE/GORE 6 - A man sees visions of angels screaming with bloody wings and torsos and we see images of impaled, writhing angels. A fight between two men leaves splattered blood around a room and one man has a shard of glass through his neck from a fall through a window. We later see his twisted, bloody, mutilated body a few times. A man is shown with empty sockets for eyes, mottled flesh and gaping wounds. A man is flung around a bit, erupts in flames and we see his charred, grotesque face talking. A man yank's out the bloody heart of another man. A man is shot a few times and walks around with bloody wounds on his torso and a man finds a trunk of withered, human faces. A woman is brought back from death and she gags and shudders. A man and woman are flung from a car during an accident.
LANGUAGE 5 - Seven F-words, a couple of scatological references, and a handful of mild obscenities.
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Heaven and Hell, God and Satan, the afterlife, angels, spirituality.
MESSAGE - Humans have souls and God loves humans. Sometimes we must fight to retain our faith.
CAVEATS
Be aware that while we do our best to avoid spoilers it is impossible to disguise all details and some may reveal crucial plot elements.
We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and older reviews are not as complete & accurate as recent ones; we plan to revisit and correct older reviews as resources and time permits.
Our ratings and reviews are based on the theatrically-released versions of films; on video there are often Unrated, Special, Director's Cut or Extended versions, (usually accurately labelled but sometimes mislabeled) released that contain additional content, which we did not review.
