The Zero Theorem | 2014 | R | - 6.4.6

Struggling to focus on his mission to uncover the meaning of life, a man (Christoph Waltz) petitions his employer to allow him to work in the solitude of his home while waiting for "the call" that will presumably answer all of his questions about our existence. The management agrees initially with stipulations that include a regular therapy session, interaction with a brilliant teenager working on his own computer mission and a sexy young woman in a virtual world. Also with Matt Damon, Sanjeev Bhaskar, Peter Stormare, Ben Whishaw, Mélanie Thierry, Lucas Hedges and Tilda Swinton. Directed by Terry Gilliam. [1:47]

A man wades into water and falls beneath the surface, a woman that's with him becomes frightened when he doesn't surface and jumps into find him and he is unconscious under water and she pulls him out to do mouth-to-mouth resuscitation; the man revives and the two kiss tenderly. We see a woman on what seems to be a porn site and she wears a sheer top that reveals her nipples and a heart shaped spot over her crotch that reads "Enter Me."  A man accuses another man of doing inappropriate (sexual) things with a teen boy (we see no evidence of this). A woman comes into a bathroom where a man has been hiding and she sits down to use the toilet after lifting her skirt (we see her bare thighs and a strap of panties along with cleavage) and the man stands in the hall holding her wine glass.
A woman talks about her father buying her ugly dresses when she was young and that they only made her "Want to get naked, and that's no way to keep the boys away."

A man swallows what looks like an olive and chokes; he gasps for air and his mouth is wide open as a woman grabs him from the back, they fall on the floor and she squeezes his chest causing him to spit out the olive (we see the olive land on the floor and a small mouse carries it into a hole in the wall). CAVEATS

Be aware that while we do our best to avoid spoilers it is impossible to disguise all details and some may reveal crucial plot elements.

We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and older reviews are not as complete & accurate as recent ones; we plan to revisit and correct older reviews as resources and time permits.

Our ratings and reviews are based on the theatrically-released versions of films; on video there are often Unrated, Special, Director's Cut or Extended versions, (usually accurately labelled but sometimes mislabeled) released that contain additional content, which we did not review.
