Monster Hunter SEX/NUDITY 1

 – A large cat creature throws a kiss to a woman.
A woman wears a tank T-shirt that reveals cleavage and bare shoulders and the outline of her nipples through much of the movie.

Monster Hunter VIOLENCE/GORE 7

 – A man complains of not being able to feel his arm and falls to his knees saying that he can’t move; he pulls up his shirt to show several swollen spots on his abdomen where small creatures wriggle around inside, he touches the spots and they burst open and insects skitter out as a large creature grabs the man. A giant creature with horns, claws and large teeth that moves under and above a sandy terrain speeds toward several people as they shoot at it without effect; the creature tips over a vehicle and walks toward the people that have fallen out as one man scrambles to climb over the vehicle, he is gored through the back (we see him dangling with some blood in his mouth), he pulls the pin on hand grenades and drops them into the mouth of the creature, blowing himself up. A man is grabbed by a creature and pulled up into its mouth; we hear the man screaming, then a crunch and he stops screaming (we see his legs thrashing briefly).
A woman in a cave is speared in the back by a giant spider-like creature and she falls to the ground (others think she is dead and leave her). An injured woman in a cave revives and sees a giant spider-like creature standing over her; she wakes up later wrapped in a cocoon, she cuts herself out of it and falls on the ground, where she sees other people wrapped in similar pods (they are dead). A woman scrambles to get out of a cave and away from a large spider-like creature and climbs up through a tunnel that leads to the surface; the creature grabs her leg, she sets it on fire, throws a handful of ammunition into the flames and pulls herself out onto the sandy surface as the ammunition discharges.
A man shoots a poison arrow into a giant creature’s eye, it stumbles around and swings its heavy tail to hit the man and throw him, a woman shoots it with an RPG, the man stands on the monster’s head and stabs between its horns pushing the blade deeper, he is thrown and the woman continues pushing the blade deeper in the creature’s head (the man is shown unconscious and with a bloody wound on his head). People climb a sheer rock wall with lava spurting out from around it; a large dragon flies around them and blows fire at them; two people are burned and we hear them scream, others shoot at the dragon, a woman shoots an explosive charge at it, she stabs the dragon as it blows fire and she jumps over a cliff and falls through a glowing portal landing on the ground in another place, where she is retrieved by soldiers and a helicopter; the dragon bites the nose off the helicopter sending it to the ground and killing the people inside with a blast of flames. A tank fires at a dragon and the dragon peels the turret off the top, picks a man out from inside, throws him in the air and eats him (we hear him screaming). Helicopters fire on a dragon, it blows flames at one and it crashes into the other, and it pulls the wings off a plane in flight (the plane plummets to the ground in flames).
A large black cloud with lightning flashing through it moves toward two military vehicles as they try to speed away; they are overtaken and the vehicles are thrown in the cloud, tumbling and slamming the people inside before they crash onto the ground in a different place where they fall out of the vehicles with some bloody wounds on their faces. A man and woman are trapped in a giant sandstorm and she deploys a protective tent to cover them; the man loses consciousness and the woman stabs a drug in his chest to revive him and he sits up and gasps.
A large sailing ship moves across desert sand as lightning flashes in a dark sky and over a tower in the distance; we see horned creatures moving under the sand and people on the ship are thrown when the creatures slam into it; we see a couple of bodies lying on the deck with no visible injuries, one crew member is impaled (we see some blood on the wound) and another is thrown off the ship and left on the sand (he’s still alive). A woman stands among large mounds in a sandy terrain as a giant creature moves toward her, the woman runs up a rock wall, the creature stabs at her, it steps on a trap and a man cuts its head in half and a claw off (we see goo oozing from open wounds). A man and a woman run across sand chased by a giant creature, the man drops something and goes back for it, as the creature bursts up through the ground and the man is thrown. A creature leaps out of a watering hole toward a woman (we see its mouth full of teeth) and a man kills it before it reaches her. Many large creatures stampede around a man and a woman and another man scares them away with fire; the first man is trapped at a cliff’s edge until a woman dangling from a cable sweeps him away to safety. A woman slashes a dragon’s wing, she fires an explosive into its mouth and it blows up, it continues to move toward the woman and a man shoots at it several times before it collapses in flames.
A man attacks a woman and holds a knife to her throat, and they fight with punching, throws and body slams; the man is stabbed in the shoulder and he kicks her in the face, knocking her unconscious, and when she awakens, her hands are tied. A woman frees herself from binding and attacks a man: they fight throwing each other around and slamming heads against rocks and beams. A man punches a woman in the face knocking her unconscious and she awakens in handcuffs and in a cell. A man shoots an arrow at several people in the distance and when it strikes a rock, it spreads a red powder in the air; the people panic and open fire on him. A man and a woman practice with bladed weapons and a hand-mounted crossbow; the blades glow when they are pressed together and the woman is startled. A large humanoid cat creature lunges toward a woman in a ship’s galley.
A man and a woman hide in a cave where large creatures skitter around outside trying to get to them. A man performs a ritual prayer for his family members (not clear if they are dead, or he has been separated from them). People find the wreckage of two vehicles with charred bodies inside and on the ground around them. We hear a recording of a military group calling for help and reporting an encounter; when another group arrives at the spot where the others were last, but there is no evidence of them.
A woman with a wound on her ankle puts gunpowder on it and creates a spark that ignites and cauterizes the wound as she yells in pain. A woman has large bloody spots on the front and back of her tank T-shirt throughout much of the movie. A man ties his dog tags to his boot and says, “In case I get my head blown off.” A man swats a fly buzzing around a woman’s ear.
Piles of human skeletons are seen in a dark cave. The bones of a giant sand creature are found in a desert setting. A man eats a piece of moss that has grown on a rock wall, and he uses more to make a salve that he applies to a wound on his shoulder. A man pulls the organs and tissue out of a giant creature and creates weapons with them (we see slime and goo). A woman cuts a piece of shell off the outside of a dead creature and uses it to build a sled-type conveyance to move a wounded man. A large humanoid cat has a scar across one eye. A man pulls a clump of fur out of a mug filled with a beverage (it is cat fur).

CAVEATS

Be aware that while we do our best to avoid spoilers it is impossible to disguise all details and some may reveal crucial plot elements.

We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and older reviews are not as complete & accurate as recent ones; we plan to revisit and correct older reviews as resources and time permits.

Our ratings and reviews are based on the theatrically-released versions of films; on video there are often Unrated, Special, Director's Cut or Extended versions, (usually accurately labelled but sometimes mislabeled) released that contain additional content, which we did not review.
