SEX/NUDITY 4 - A man and a woman kiss passionately, they fall back onto a bed and begin to pull each other's clothes off (we see the man's bare side) until they are interrupted when the woman thinks she sees someone in the hallway. A woman climbs on top of a man in bed and straddles him, and then kisses him (they are both clothed and nothing else is shown).
A woman holds a pregnancy test stick in her hand and is pleased when it shows up negative.
A woman says, "Nice butt, Bruce" to a man on a TV.
A woman wears low-cut tops that reveal cleavage and bare shoulders in most scenes.

VIOLENCE/GORE 7 - The supernatural being that we see throughout the movie appears in varying levels of detail: we sometimes see a gray-tinged, human face with limbs that twist unnaturally, and other times we see a wisp of black hair, blackened skin and long skeletal fingers.
A man holds a gun to the back of his young daughter's head and prepares to shoot when he is attacked by a supernatural being, pulled into the air and his neck is broken (we see this in a fuzzy view suggesting that this is what a young girl sees without her glasses).
Two young girls are chased by a supernatural being, one girl hides in her room and a woman comes to find out what's happening: the woman goes into the room where the being appears and chases the three of them out of the room; the woman falls and is "bitten" by the being (we see the woman go pale and gasp, one of the young girls cries for the being to stop, the being approaches the girl and they are interrupted by a noise). A woman has a dream that shows someone walking through what appears to be a hospital or orphanage, stabbing a woman with a knitting needle (we see her bloody hands and blood on the woman's chest) and taking a child; we see the woman running from armed men that chase her to a cliff where she jumps, crashes into a branch and then falls into the water below. A woman sees a wispy supernatural being moving on the floor toward her, she screams and it lunges up toward her face (we see the woman later, apparently taken over by the being and her skin is gray-tinged and moths fly out of her mouth). A supernatural being holds a young girl and wraps her in a wispy cloak, and then falls over a cliff toward water; they crash into a branch and many moths fly out of the cloak. A man searches a dark cabin and is grabbed by a supernatural being and slammed to the floor (we see blood on his head and it appears that his neck has been broken).
A young girl yells at a man, he yells back and he sees a dark spot appear on a wall behind him; he then rushes out of the house. A man holding a hammer searches a house looking for an intruder; he walks toward a dark spot on a wall that spreads and drips, we see moths coming out of the spot and long black fingers poking through, we hear a loud noise and a being in the hole pushes out and shoves the man down the stairs (we see him hit his head and face and then land on the floor unconscious). Two young girls sit near a cliff over water and a being tries to entice them to come to her over the cliff: a man lunges for one of the girls and the being attacks him by squeezing his head, then grabs his chest and he falls to the ground unconscious; the being picks up a woman trying to retrieve the girls and bites her, and then throws her to the ground (we see blood on her nose).
A young girl in her room hears a gunshot and her father enters the room with a spot of blood on his shirt saying that her mother doesn't feel well (we understand that he has just shot and killed the girl's mother in the next room). A woman dreams that something is under her bed, and then a being crawls onto the bed next to her and she screams and wakes up. A man in a hospital bed has a seizure after he dreams about his dead brother speaking to him about saving his children. We see a man in a hospital bed with an IV and we hear that he is in a coma. We see what appears to be a woman standing in a room, but she is actually dead and she falls to the floor with a crack (we see her decayed face and skin). We see a dead body floating in water and several moths fly out of a hole in its back. We see the skeletal remains of an infant in a box.
A woman awakens to hear two young girls humming and then a third voice that she does not recognize; the woman goes to investigate, walks into their room and toward a closet when one of the girls tells her not to go in the closet (she does not, but closes the door). A woman stands in a hallway and a supernatural being lunges toward her from behind but disappears when she turns around. A young girl climbs out of her bedroom window to find a supernatural being and we see her sleeping under a tree outside the next morning; a woman brings her inside, tries to hold her, and the child struggles violently and slaps the woman in the face, but then calms down. We see a supernatural being moving in the corner of a room, and then into a closet and a woman investigates when she realizes that the young girl she thought was playing is not in the room (we see the being in the corner of the closet, but the woman sees only a stain on the wall).
A man drives his two young daughters on a snow-covered road, he yells at one of the girls and loses control of the car; the car spins on the road, and over a embankment and we see the crumpled vehicle after it crashes into a tree (we see the man with bloody cuts on his face and we see drops of blood in the snow as they walk away from the car and one girl has broken eyeglasses). Two men find a wrecked car and then an abandoned cabin where two young girls run through the cabin like animals, snarl at them and act aggressively (no one is injured). The lights in a house flicker and go out and when they come back on a young girl screams and jumps off a counter toward a woman, startling her.
We see stick crayon drawings of animals attacking children and the animals have blood on their mouths, and we see other drawings of children attacking animals and the children have blood on their mouths; one child is drawn with blood coming from the mouth (as if vomiting) and children are drawn moving on all fours like animals. We see grainy photos of a woman in a few scenes.
Two young girls sit in an abandoned cabin alone in front of a fire and a supernatural being in the shadows tosses them a cherry to eat (we cannot see the being, but we hear it making noises). A young girl plays tug of war with an unseen being and we see the young girl off the floor and giggling; we see the shadow of the supernatural being on the wall). A supernatural being floats out of a closet. Two young girls hide under beds in a hospital and appear afraid of the people who speak to them (we see healing scratches on their faces).
A young girl pulls away from a woman who reaches out for her saying that she shouldn't do that and that "she gets jealous." A young girl clings to her older sister and hides behind her. A young girl hits her older sister on the back several times (she is OK).
A woman accuses another woman of abusing two young girls and calls child protective services. We hear a news report about two people being shot (one died and one is in critical condition) as well as a man murdering his estranged wife and kidnapping his two young daughters. We hear news reports of panic and a rash of suicides due to a financial crisis. A young girl says, "Daddy, there's a woman outside and she's not touching the floor." A young girl talk about a "hospital for sad people" and that a woman ran away from one, took her baby with her and they ran into the wild." A doctor talks about a young girl suffering from a Dissociative identity disorder. A woman talks about a ghost "righting the wrong it was done." A man walks toward a tree saying, "I have to go," and appears to be urinating (nothing is shown or heard).
We see an abandoned cabin where rats skitter around a kitchen. A young girl eats a moth and we see a headless body in her hands and she has blackened smears around her mouth. A young girl eats with her hands and snarls like an animal while sitting on the floor.

CAVEATS

Be aware that while we do our best to avoid spoilers it is impossible to disguise all details and some may reveal crucial plot elements.

We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and older reviews are not as complete & accurate as recent ones; we plan to revisit and correct older reviews as resources and time permits.

Our ratings and reviews are based on the theatrically-released versions of films; on video there are often Unrated, Special, Director's Cut or Extended versions, (usually accurately labelled but sometimes mislabeled) released that contain additional content, which we did not review.
