The Ice Harvest | 2005 | R | - 8.8.10

John Cusack and Billy Bob Thornton star as two men who think they've committed the perfect crime by stealing $2 million from their mob boss. It's Christmas Eve in Wichita, Kansas, and they're desperate to get out of town unnoticed before an ice storm prevents them. Other complications include a sultry nightclub owner, an inebriated friend, and a sadistic mob enforcer who's looking for them. Also with Connie Nielsen, Oliver Platt and Randy Quaid. Directed by Harold Ramis. [1:28]

SEX/NUDITY 8 - A fully nude woman dances on a stage in the background of a scene (her bare breasts and pubic region are visible). A topless woman dances around a pole on a stage; she wears a g-string (her bare buttocks are visible), a man puts money in a garter belt, and he caresses her thigh. Two topless women dance on a stage and around a pole (their bare breasts, as well as their bare buttocks are visible), and another topless woman dances around a pole, spins around the pole and wiggles her bare buttocks while men in a club watch her. A dancer wears sparkling stars over her nipples, and a g-string that reveals her bare buttocks. We see posters of nude women and their bare breasts visible.
We hear a woman moaning rhythmically, and we see a nude man and a woman on a TV screen having sex (the man's chest and legs and the woman's bare breasts and buttocks are visible); the woman sits on top of the man who is lying down and she thrusts up and down several times. We see a photograph of a nude woman (part of her bare breasts and her bare buttocks are seen) leaning over a desk while a man (we see his bare chest) is standing behind her and they are apparently having sex.
A woman opens her robe and she's wearing a bra and panties; then the woman and a man kiss (please see the Violence/Gore category for more details). We see the top of a woman's bare thigh above her stockings when her skirt flips up. Women wear low-cut tops and dresses that reveal cleavage in several scenes.
We see the outside of exotic dance clubs with the outline of a nude woman in neon lights (including nipples) and "XXX" in the signage.
A woman sits on a man's lap and they kiss. A woman says that she will have to give a man "something real nice" for helping her with a problem. A man tells a woman that he will dream of her. A man and a woman discuss a photograph of a political official in a compromising position with a woman who's not his wife. Two men talk about a woman that they have both been married to.

VIOLENCE/GORE 8 - A man shoots a man in the face with buckshot (we see bloody wounds on his face); he falls to the floor, stabs the man who shot him in the foot (the man struggles to pull the knife out of his foot), gets off the floor, shoots a police officer in the forehead, shoves a woman back onto a sofa, and is then shot in the head (blood splatters).
We see a flash of light through a window, we hear a muffled pop, a man goes into a house to investigate and finds a woman slumped over dead and dripping blood from a head wound.
A man is shot in the chest and another man is shot in the stomach. A woman and a man kiss and the woman is shot in the abdomen -- the woman was holding a razor to the back of a man's neck (we see a trickle of blood). A man shoots a man locked in a footlocker. A man locked in a footlocker shoots a gun through it, at two men who are standing outside (they are not hit).
A man finds drops and smudges of blood on a floor, he follows the trail and finds a very bloody part of a finger squeezed in a vice (the scene is extremely short). A man bandages a very bloody foot wound. A dead woman is wrapped in plastic and is put in the trunk of a car and shoved in to fit.
A dead man in a footlocker is pushed onto a creaky pier, the pier breaks, and another man (who cannot swim) and the footlocker fall into the water; the man shoots his gun at a man who's standing at the pier, and then another body is pushed into the water and lands on top of him, pushing him under and he eventually drowns.
A man drags another man out of a bar then kicks him in the crotch. A man punches another man in the face and knocks him to the floor. A man keeps twisting a man's arm and we hear cracking.
A man with his pants around his ankles (we see him in boxers) touches his crotch and says that one of his testicles retreated into his body (someone has just kicked him in the crotch); another man holds him under the arms and jolts him up and down a few times, and the man says that he is OK after that.
A man slips and falls hard on ice, a man falls down a flight of stairs, and a man is hit by a camper that backing, he falls to the ground, but is OK. A man driving a car spins around on very icy roads.
A man threatens to shoot another man. A woman has a black eye, we hear that her boyfriend hit her, and a man says that he will kill him if he touches her again. A man with a golf club pounds on a footlocker with a man inside. A man talks about a man cutting a man's hand off. A man says of another man, "He makes people's arms and legs bend both ways." A man tells a man that another man lost an eye during a fight. A man tells another man that a man died of a massive embolism.
A man vomits over a bridge, then hits his head hard on a traffic sign when he stands up, and a man vomits in another man's car. We see two men urinating in urinals. A man is drunk, he comes home for dinner, he is very rude and yells at the people around the table, he pulls a leg off of a cooked turkey and splatters his wife with meat and juice. A man siphons gas out of a car and gets some in his mouth (he spits it out).

CAVEATS

Be aware that while we do our best to avoid spoilers it is impossible to disguise all details and some may reveal crucial plot elements.

We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and older reviews are not as complete & accurate as recent ones; we plan to revisit and correct older reviews as resources and time permits.

Our ratings and reviews are based on the theatrically-released versions of films; on video there are often Unrated, Special, Director's Cut or Extended versions, (usually accurately labelled but sometimes mislabeled) released that contain additional content, which we did not review.
