Coming 2 America | 2021 | PG-13 | – 5.4.4

Why is “Coming 2 America” rated PG-13? The MPAA rating has been assigned for “crude and sexual content, language and drug content.” The Kids-In-Mind.com evaluation includes a few implied sex scenes, a couple of kissing scenes, several cleavage revealing outfits, a lion chasing a man, a few threats of violence and war, a couple of fights with people using sticks and other weapons, a funeral where a man dies during the event, an implied circumcision, several arguments, and 1 not fully enunciated F-word and other strong language. Coming 2 America SEX/NUDITY 5

 – A man and woman go into a room and close the door (sex is implied), while another man and another woman sit on a sofa together; the woman blows smoke from a marijuana cigarette into the man’s mouth, straddles his lap, thrusts on top of him briefly and pushes his face between her clothed breasts (no nudity is evident) and we understand that she became pregnant from that encounter. A woman seated in a large bubble-filled bathtub (we see her bare shoulders and cleavage) smiles as a man emerges from under the bubbles saying, “Your royal privates are clean”; the woman says, “One more time to be sure,” and the man submerges (implying oral sex).
► A young man and a young woman kiss. A husband kisses his wife’s hand and they dance together. A husband timidly suggests sex to his wife in bed and when she is dismissive, he rolls over disappointed.
► Scantily clad women (we see cleavage, bare abdomens, backs and thighs to the lower buttocks) enter a room where they dance, squat deeply and thrust their hips suggestively in several scenes. Women wear costumes that reveal cleavage, bare abdomens and legs to the hips while they dance for a funeral. Three scantily clad young women offer to bathe a young man and it is implied that they do bathe him along with sexual gratification (we do not see this). A young man grabs his crotch when a reference is made to his genitals.
► Young women wear cleavage-revealing outfits in several scenes. A young woman wears cropped tops and short shorts that reveal cleavage, bare abdomen and bare legs to the upper thighs and skirts in several scenes. A young man wears an open robe that reveals his bare chest and abdomen. A young man with a towel around his waist reveals his bare chest, abdomen and legs to the knees. A portrait of a man shows him shirtless and we see his bare chest and abdomen. A young woman wears a deeply cut dress that reveals cleavage and her upper abdomen.
► A young man sings a song to a young woman about sex using suggestive terms. A man speaks during a funeral and says after the man died, “No one ever smiled again, and no one ever had sex again.” A man says that it has been a while since, “I was tended to by the royal bathers” (implying sex). A man says, “I did not sew my royal oats.” A man introduces another man as being “The most well-endowed man in Africa.” A man says, “They can turn your penis into a vagina now.” A reference is made to groping. A wife remarks that something her husband has done is “testosterone driven.” A man says that he wants a woman that will, “Arouse my intellect as well as my loins.” A man tells a young man that he will have to go through a ceremonial circumcision (please see the Violence/Gore category for more details). A woman talks about women not being allowed to assume the throne in a country and that women are not allowed to own their own businesses either. When a young man asks a young woman what she wants she says, “I am just a wife,” and behaves subserviently.

Coming 2 America VIOLENCE/GORE 4

 – Two men try to grab a young woman and she fights them off using two balusters: she is struck in the face and held as a teen girl, a preteen girl and a man enter the room swinging long sticks to hit the men, knocking them to the floor. A young man awakens a sleeping lion in the jungle, it roars and chases him, and the young man tumbles into a protective cage that the lion pounces on; it then swats at the young man inside before the young man snips off a few of its whiskers and throws a can of cat food in the distance to distract it. Two men tell a young man that he must undergo a ceremonial circumcision and one of the men shows him a series of what he says are the foreskins of his ancestors; the young man presses his groin against a table with a hole in it and one man brings a blade down hard as he screams; the man picks up what he cut and eats it (it is a piece of a potato) and the young man faints. A group of armed men enters a castle and their leader threatens a man in the castle. Armed men march into a castle and hold heavy sticks and pipes as weapons.
► A man and a young woman practice fighting with long sticks and flips in a martial style; two other girls join the practice. A young man practices walking properly and another man swats him on the buttocks when he doesn’t do it correctly. An adult elephant walks between two men while trumpeting and one young man is alarmed by its size. A young man watches a lion in the distance and is nervous about having to get a whisker from it. An elderly man tells his adult son that he wants to have his funeral now while he is alive and we see him standing in a coffin while others pay tribute to him; the man dies during the event.
► We hear several references to a neighboring region threatening a kingdom unless they can arrange a marriage between the two families to unite them. A man threatens another man with war and blood. A man makes a remark about another man having left his sister at the altar and that she has developed an unusual habit of barking like a dog (we see her barking like a dog in a couple of scenes). A man tells his adult son that he must prove his bravery by “retrieving a whisker from a resting lion.” A husband and his wife argue and she tells him to leave and sleep somewhere else.
► An elderly man tells his adult son, “I’ll be dead soon.” A man tells his adult son, “I spoiled you” and “You will be assassinated.” A man jokes that another man has ordered his execution 3 times already today. A man teases a man saying that he is “Cowering at the feet of the women in his life.” During a job interview a man asks a potential employee if his mother is a drug addict and if his father is in the picture; he goes on to say that he went to boarding school and suffered from not having a strong role model like the interviewee must have, and the interviewee leaves the interview accusing the man of being racist and judgmental after asking him if his father made a donation to an Ivy and that he’s sure that he will find photos of the man in black face. A man tells a young man not to use his “white voice” during a job interview. A man says, “Nazis are back.” A reference is made to a man plotting another man’s death. A man tells another man, “I will cut you” (there is not cutting). A young man and a young woman argue and he exclaims, “I’m gonna be eaten by a lion.” A woman in a club says, “I’m gonna go throw up” (we do not see this). A song’s lyrics include a line about someone being “free of infection.”
► A man spits on a man in a few scenes (we see spittle). A man makes a face after biting into a burger at a fast food restaurant and he is told that it is vegetarian. A lion flatulates while sleeping.
