content-ratingsWhy is “Chick Fight” rated R? The MPAA rating has been assigned for “language and sexual material throughout, some violence and brief drug use.” The Kids-In-Mind.com evaluation includes numerous and very explicit discussions of sex and sexual orientation, including detailed descriptions of sex acts, many scenes of women fighting in a ring with punches and kicks and throws and some blood shown, a severed ear held up during a fight, several training sequences, a fire that destroys a coffee shop, drinking to excess, and nearly 20 F-words and other strong language. Read our parents’ guide below for details on sexual content, violence & strong language.

A single Florida woman’s (Malin Akerman) life is unravelling when she loses her coffee shop, her car is repossessed and she’s threatened with eviction. Relief, and ostensible empowerment, arrives in the form of an underground, no-holds fight circuit for women and by women, where they get a chance to beat each other up. Also with Bella Thorne, Dulcé Sloan, Kevin Connolly, Kevin Nash, Alec Mapa, Dominique Jackson, Fortune Feimster, Alec Baldwin and Alexia Barlier. Directed by Paul Leyden. Several lines of dialogue are spoken in an unidentified language, most without translation. [Running Time: 1:37]

CAVEATS

Be aware that while we do our best to avoid spoilers it is impossible to disguise all details and some may reveal crucial plot elements.

We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and older reviews are not as complete & accurate as recent ones; we plan to revisit and correct older reviews as resources and time permits.

Our ratings and reviews are based on the theatrically-released versions of films; on video there are often Unrated, Special, Director's Cut or Extended versions, (usually accurately labelled but sometimes mislabeled) released that contain additional content, which we did not review.
