VIOLENCE/GORE 6 - A woman snaps a twig shaped like a stick figure witch in half and another woman falls to the ground snapped in half at the waist (she gurgles briefly and blood pours from her mouth); three people scream and run in terror. A man attacks a woman and she stabs him in the neck (we see blood spurting and he gasps and falls dead).
A woman pulls her bloody pant leg back to reveal a bloody wound and we see something sticking out of the flesh; the woman touches the thing sticking out and gooey, bloody tissue oozes out of area; she pulls the thing sticking out and we see a boney creature as we hear squishing and she moans and screams. A man unwraps a wound on a woman's foot and we see a lot of blood on the bandage and her foot; the cut seems infected and something under the wound moves and the woman yelps.
A man runs through a forest in a panic after hearing loud, ground shaking noises; he stops as a tree falls toward him and we understand that he has been pinned under the tree (he moans in pain and is unable to free himself). A woman climbs a tree to retrieve a drone and she falls to the ground (we hear a thud and she lies motionless); something unseen drags her away. A man and a woman stand in corners in a room when a figure enters the room with them; the man is whisked away and the woman hyperventilates, tries to move out of the room and is whisked away. Something unseen pulls a tent into the air, and drops it in front of three people as they run and scream in terror.
A man goes into a house and thinks that he sees people he is looking for, but they disappear; he runs through hallways and doorways and it seems like a maze with loud thunder claps outside. A man's flashlight goes out and in the light of a lightning flash we see a woman moving toward him from the shadows; he tries to get away and the door is locked but she disappears. A woman outside a house in a heavy rainstorm sees a figure moving in the forest near her and screams; she runs into the house and finds many doors and flights of stairs while searching for a man inside. A woman in a house goes down a flight of stairs and a man jumps out of the shadows toward her; he slams her into a wall, drags her unconscious body toward a hole in the floor and dumps her in it (she screams and we hears a thud). A woman crawls through a narrow passage covered with dirt and tree roots; she gets stuck (we see her bloody head and face from an earlier attack), then pushes her way through a narrow spot and finds a door that she hacks open with a knife. A man wakes up in a tent and we hear him panting and saying that there are noises in the forest; he dresses and unzips his tent as we hear loud blasts and then dogs barking and howling. Loud, rumbling thunderclaps sound and the ground shakes in several scenes and people scream and run in terror. People hear strange sounds coming from their walkie-talkies in a few scenes.
Many stick figures in various sizes are strewn and hung around a campsite scaring the campers (we see this a couple of times). We see a video of someone approaching someone else who is facing a wall and the person approaching is apparently struck from behind as we hear a screech and the victim collapses (we do not see what happened). Two men shove each other and argue a few times.
We hear that a man went into the woods to urinate and hasn't returned; two others search for him and he charges out of the darkness toward them startling everyone. A woman comes up behind another woman and startles her. A woman comes up behind a man and startles him. A man leaves a group after dark and searches for firewood alone in a forest; two others search for him when he doesn't return and are unable to find him. We see a shaky video of someone running through hallways and we hear someone screaming; at one moment we see a glimpse of what looks like a woman with blood on her face (we see this video a few times).
Six people walk across a frigid creek and one woman steps on something; we see her bloody foot with a deep gash in it as a man cleans and bandages it. Four people walk through a thick forest and find themselves back where they started.
A woman screams when she finds out that her boyfriend is missing. A man becomes angry, curses and throws parts of a tent when trying to set it up. A drone lifts off the ground, its controls malfunction and it crashes and the pilot curses in frustration. Several large dogs bark aggressively at 4 people as they approach an apartment.
A woman talks about a legend that states a woman was accused of being a witch after children in the town said that she took blood from them; the townspeople took her into a forest, tied her to a tree and left her to die from exposure (another part of the story describes that she was hung from a makeshift rack and left to die). A woman talks about a man and his family living in the woods and that he killed his children after a voice told him to do so; also that the man was hanged in the woods and their home was burned. A woman says that a girl drowned in a creek and that her mother saw a hand reach out of the water and grab the girl. A man and a woman argue about the reasons the woman is making a documentary about another man's search for his missing sister. We hear that a man's sister disappeared in a forest rumored to be haunted by a witch some years earlier (there are several discussions about this occurrence). People talk about a legend of a witch in a forest. A man talks about there being a spell on a forest. A Confederate flag hangs on a wall in an apartment. A sign reads, "No entry after nightfall." A man says, "These people are going to die and will be here forever." A woman says, "I thought I heard a voice earlier." A young woman moans from pain and a fever.

CAVEATS

Be aware that while we do our best to avoid spoilers it is impossible to disguise all details and some may reveal crucial plot elements.

We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and older reviews are not as complete & accurate as recent ones; we plan to revisit and correct older reviews as resources and time permits.

Our ratings and reviews are based on the theatrically-released versions of films; on video there are often Unrated, Special, Director's Cut or Extended versions, (usually accurately labelled but sometimes mislabeled) released that contain additional content, which we did not review.
