SEX/NUDITY 3 - Several instances of sexual innuendo (including references to rape) and a few kisses. We see a nude woman's blurry shape through a shower door (we see her bare back and briefly see her upper buttocks), a woman wearing a towel, a woman wearing a slip and several women in cleavage and midriff-revealing tops.
VIOLENCE/GORE 8 - Many people are stabbed and sliced; sometimes we hear squishy or slashing noises, sometimes we see the knife sticking out of the body and most of the time we see blood on the victim's clothing or body. Someone is thrown out of a window and we hear the person land with a loud thud; later, we see the lifeless body a couple of times, lying in some blood. One person is shot in the head (we briefly see a close-up of the bloody forehead wound and blood running from the person's mouth) and a few others are shot repeatedly. A house explodes; a person inside is engulfed in flames and several others are knocked down by the force and roll down a hill. Many fight scenes and struggles, sometimes resulting in bloody facial cuts: people punch and kick each other in the face and body (sometimes repeatedly), one person is choked, people are thrown to the ground or into walls and many are hit in the head or body with objects such as golf clubs, tables, candlesticks and vases. A person's face is thrown into a counter and another's is slammed against a fireplace. A few people fall down staircases, someone nearly falls off a high ledge, another falls out of a second-floor window and another falls off a ledge and onto a bed below. A few people are bound and their mouths are covered with duct tape. We see a bloody knife several times, a bloody door, a bloody window and a fake crime scene on a movie set with lots of blood on a bed and a bloody sheet covering a body. Many people have bloody cuts on their faces, necks and hands, as well as bloody clothing. We see several corpses, usually very bloody and with a knife sticking out of the torso. A person on a movie set appears to have scissors piercing his head. In a dream, someone shatters a window using a knife; also, a person shoots out several mirrors. A person starts breaking through a door with a knife; also, two people break down a door. Several instances of threatening with guns and knives. Reckless driving; a car hits another and we hear some crashes and see cars swerving to miss each other. Many chases and "jump" scenes.
LANGUAGE 8 - About 30 F-words, a profane finger gesture, some anatomical references, lots of scatological references, lots of mild obscenities and some insults.
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Murder, Hollywood, movie productions, secret lives, revenge, love.
MESSAGE - You just never know who wants to kill you … and why.
CAVEATS
Be aware that while we do our best to avoid spoilers it is impossible to disguise all details and some may reveal crucial plot elements.
We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and older reviews are not as complete & accurate as recent ones; we plan to revisit and correct older reviews as resources and time permits.
Our ratings and reviews are based on the theatrically-released versions of films; on video there are often Unrated, Special, Director's Cut or Extended versions, (usually accurately labelled but sometimes mislabeled) released that contain additional content, which we did not review.
