VIOLENCE/GORE 7 - Although many limbs and heads are severed in several scenes, many of the injuries that are inflicted by light sabers show little visible blood or gore (presumably the light sabers cauterize wounds).
► A man jumps from a platform and flips over another man who slashes him with a saber cutting off his legs and an arm: the wounded man lies on the ground, near a river of molten lava, moaning, and he begins to slip; his legs (what's left of them) catch fire, his body catches fire, we see him engulfed in flames, see his tortured face and hear him scream in agony, and when the flames go out he continues to smolder and we see his charred and bloody skin as he drags himself away.
► Three men fight with sabers: one is knocked down, large robots begin shooting at two of the men, a man is thrown hard against a platform, he falls to the floor and the platform falls on top of him (he appears to have been crushed although he is uninjured); the other two men continue to fight, one slashes the hands off the other (we see the charred stumps), then holds two sabers at his throat and lops his head off (we see the head separate and bounce on the floor as the body slumps to the floor).
► A man and an alien being fight with punches: the man opens the chest cavity of the alien, where what looks like a human heart dangles, and the man shoots the alien repeatedly until flames shoot out through the alien's eye sockets and mouth and the alien explodes.
► An alien knocks two guards out, he is hit by an electrical charge and is thrown against a wall, he gets up and he and a man fight each other with light sabers on a pedestal that rises off the ground: large disks are thrown at him, he dodges them and throws one back, he is hit by a bolt of electricity, he is knocked back, and falls to the ground. A man with a saber slashes the heads off two guards, a man slashes another man's hand off, and a man is wrapped in an electrical charge and pushed out of a window (we hear him scream on the way down to the ground). Two men fight, one's hand is cut off, one is thrown into the air and crashes into a wall.
► Two men fight with many robots: one cuts the head off a robot (we see the charred stump with a red glow), the robot continues to fight, and the man slashes it across the middle cutting it into two pieces. A man with a saber slashes at a robot cutting his head off and we see slime coming from the wound.
► A man's charred body is worked on by robots that clamp onto the burned tissue and pull (we hear the man screaming).
► Several men fight against one man and three are slain: one man shoots an electrical charge out of his fingertips toward another man, who jerks and deflects the charge shooting it back and hitting the first man -- we see the man's face begin to shrivel and turn grey, his eyes turn orange, he smolders and his voice deepens and becomes gravelly.
► Two men with sabers fight: one kicks the other, one is held around the throat and pushed to the ground, they fight over a river of molten lava below, they walk along pipes high in the air and continue to fight; they jump to a platform, lava washes over the platform, the men jump and run, the structure begins to melt and break apart, and it falls with the men holding onto it but they jump onto smaller platforms that are floating in the lava while continuing to fight.
► Two vessels crash land in the landing bay of a larger ship, the pilots get out with their sabers drawn and begin fighting with many robots, hacking and slashing (we see many robots fall to the floor, several with limbs detached); the robots fire on the two men, who back into an elevator, are surrounded by robots with weapons trained on them, and they slash them rapidly.
► A large army marches and clashes with many robots: they fight exchanging laser fire, a man and the alien creature he is riding are shot off a high cliff and they fall into water below, many other men are struck down, a woman is shot in the back and falls to the ground dead, and a flying vessel crashes, another vessel is shot and crashes; there are many more scenes of fighting among groups and we see dead bodies with glowing wounds.
► A space battle sequence shows many flying vessels of various sizes flying around each other, bombs explode near several, several vessels explode, vessels fire on the planet below, and a vessel explodes and we see a person thrown along with the rubble.
► An army comes onto shore in vessels, they are firing weapons at those on shore who fire back and forth, and we see humans and robots being hit and falling to the ground.
► A boy with a saber fights many soldiers who shoot at him, and he is then shot. A man enters a room where many young children hide, he draws a saber and we hear later that the children were murdered and we see their bodies lying on the floor (no wounds are visible). We see many dead Wookiees lying on the ground and among rubble.
► What are called "vulture droids" are perched on a vessel and swarm another as it passes. What are called "buzz droids" attach themselves to a vessel's hull, they begin cutting into it, they pull out wires and one cuts the "head" off a robot that's attached to a vessel (we see the piece separate and fly away). A vessel tries to get a buzz droid off another vessel, it fires at it (shooting a bit of the vessel's wing off), it tries to ram it, and then a robot shoots the buzz droid destroying it.
► Three men fly in a vessel toward a planet's surface, half of the ship breaks away, and the other plummets toward the ground, hits the ground hard, and screeches along a runway breaking a control tower as it passes (the men onboard are uninjured). Two missiles are fired, they chase two vessels and then the missiles crash together and explode.
► A man holds a woman by the throat and squeezes, she gasps and gags, he lets her go, and she falls to the ground unconscious. Two babies are born, we see the mother moaning during the birth and see the babies with smudges of blood on them. A dream sequence shows a woman in pain and dying during childbirth. A woman dies during childbirth.
► A robot pulls a hose from the front of another robot, it squirts oil on the floor causing two robots to slip and fall on the floor, and then the oil is set on fire and the flames engulf the two robots. A vessel's window is broken and shatters causing several robots inside to be sucked out into space.
► An elevator with two men inside falls fast, one man jumps out of the hatch and dangles, the elevator then speeds up toward him, and he jumps back into the hatch. Three men in an elevator shaft are nearly crushed by a speeding elevator. A man gets angry and yells, and several objects including robots are crushed and spurt fluid. A large weight falls from a ceiling landing on many on the floor below.
► A man is encased in a mask and we hear a raspy sound when he breathes. A dead body in a capsule is carried through streets where people are gathered in mourning. A robot looks cadaverous with a skull-like head and long, pointed and bony-looking fingers, and aliens have unusual features mostly exaggerated (horns, noses, decorative carvings, pointed teeth, etc.). Two men talk about destroying a group of people.

We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and older reviews are not as complete & accurate as recent ones; we plan to revisit and correct older reviews as resources and time permits.
Our ratings and reviews are based on the theatrically-released versions of films; on video there are often Unrated, Special, Director's Cut or Extended versions, (usually accurately labelled but sometimes mislabeled) released that contain additional content, which we did not review.
