"One of the 50 Coolest Websites...they simply tell it like it is" - TIME

The Skulls | 2000 | PG-13 | - 3.4.3

A working-class law-school hopeful (Joshua Jackson) joins an elite secret society and enjoys the opportunities and riches it offers until he discovers the group's darker side. Also with Leslie Bibb, Hill Harper, Paul Walker, Craig T. Nelson and William L. Petersen. [1:45]

SEX/NUDITY 3 - A little sexual innuendo and several kisses. A man and woman kiss passionately and she takes off his shirt (the scene ends before anything else happens). A man leaves a party with a woman on each arm, and it's subtly implied that something sexual will happen among them. We see some women in cleavage-revealing tops and a few shirtless men.

VIOLENCE/GORE 4 - Two people are shot: one is shot repeatedly and falls off a train trestle and the other is shot in the chest and we see blood on the person's shirt). A man breaks a man's neck (we hear a snap as the man twists the other's head). We see men scuffle and watch one of them fall off a balcony and land on the floor (we see this scene again on videotape). We see a man hanging from a noose. Men's wrists are branded with a hot iron (we hear sizzling noises and see their pained expressions and burnt skin). Men fall off a high building and into water (neither are injured). A man tackles another to stop him from shooting himself. A few shoves, a scuffle, several punches (one man gets a bloody cut on his face after a fight); during one scuffle a man sprays something in a man's face and zaps him with a stun gun. A man struggles as he's handcuffed, forced into an ambulance and injected with a tranquilizer. A woman is grabbed by a man then punches him in the face and escapes. Two men chase a woman and break open her apartment door. A man drinks something and passes out on the floor. A car nearly hits a man riding a bike and a car chases and tries to hit a man. A car rear-ends and tries to run another car off the road; the cars hit guardrails and nearly hit a truck, then one eventually runs into a barrier. Some threatening with guns.

LANGUAGE 3 - An anatomical reference and a slang term, many scatological references, several mild obscenities and some insults.

DISCUSSION TOPICS - Secret societies, murder, wealth, cover-ups, blackmail, loyalty.

MESSAGE - Having guaranteed wealth and power isn't worth sacrificing your freedom and your morals.

CAVEATS

Be aware that while we do our best to avoid spoilers it is impossible to disguise all details and some may reveal crucial plot elements.

We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and older reviews are not as complete & accurate as recent ones; we plan to revisit and correct older reviews as resources and time permits.

Our ratings and reviews are based on the theatrically-released versions of films; on video there are often Unrated, Special, Director's Cut or Extended versions, (usually accurately labelled but sometimes mislabeled) released that contain additional content, which we did not review.
