Several people living and working in a remote dessert diner are overwhelmed when strange things begin to happen: a man (Paul Bettany), who's actually an archangel, arrives telling them that God has decided to do away with humanity and a pregnant woman in their company is carrying the child that holds the promise of human redemption. SEX/NUDITY 2 - A teen girl wears a very short skirt that reveals her bare legs to the extreme upper thigh and a short top that reveals bare shoulders and abdomen. A woman wears a low-cut top that reveals cleavage. A woman wears a low-cut top that reveals cleavage.
► When asked why she is dressed in such a revealing outfit a teen girl replies, "I was hoping to get double teamed by some meth-head truckers." A woman tells a man, "I'm 8 months pregnant and it's not even your baby." A woman talks about giving her baby up for adoption. A woman talks about having considered abortion. Two men argue about a woman and one says, "She steps out with every guy except you."
VIOLENCE/GORE 8 - An elderly woman bites a man's neck (we see blood on his neck and on her mouth), she screams insults at several other people, skitters up a wall and across a ceiling, falls and knocks a man down, another man throws a frying pan at her, she is struck in the head (it looks like her neck breaks and we see a bloody gash on her cheek), and another man shoots her three times (we se bloody holes in her back).
► A woman hears a voice, she follows it, she sees her husband lashed to a beam (his skin is blistering), she goes to him followed by another man, who turns her away just as her husband explodes and sprays acid all around (we see the man who shielded the woman fall to the floor dead and his spinal column is visible through his back).
► A man and an angel fight: many punches are thrown, a bladed weapon spins around close to the man's face, one slams a TV set onto the other, one is slashed across the stomach (we see a bit of blood), one holds the other around the throat and one shoves a blade through to the other's chest (he falls to the ground with a large bloody hole in his chest and we see him disintegrate and disappear in a glow of light).
► Someone falls from the sky and crashes to the ground: we see that it is a man, a dog barks at him, he holds a knife toward it (it yelps and stops barking), we see the silhouette of large wings spread from his back, and then we see bloody tissue, he screams and we understand that he has cut his wings off (we see blood streaming, mixed with rainwater, on the ground).
► A little boy with blood on his mouth holds a knife and slashes a pregnant woman across the belly (we see some blood); she holds a cookie sheet to block the blade and somehow the boy's fingers are cut off (we see bloody stumps), and he skitters up a wall and across a ceiling (we see bloody handprints).
► A man stitches up two large, bloody holes on his back (we see the needle passing through his skin, blood drips down his back and onto a sink and we hear squishing). A man bleeds and twitches from a large, gaping neck wound (blood pools on the floor under him). Blood drips from a ceiling onto a teen girl's face. We see a dead woman covered partially by a plastic sheet (we see bloody wounds on her face) and she is carried outside and left on the ground.
► A man gets out of an ice cream truck, twitches, his jaw and his arms stretch unnaturally, he charges toward three people with guns, and they shoot him repeatedly (we see bloody holes in his body and he twitches briefly). A woman is shot in the head (we see a bloody bullet hole), and she throws a baby she was holding into the air and another man catches him. The wall of a building explodes, a man walks through an opening, two police officers hold him at gunpoint, he takes the gun from one officer, and the other officer twitches and transforms into an evil creature (he has black eyes and pointed teeth); the creature shoots the first officer, and the man shoots the creature (blood spurts).
► A creature grabs a woman's arm and tries to drag her out of a diner when a man with a large knife cuts off the creature's hand (we hear a crunch and see a blood stump).
► An angel jumps on top of a speeding car, the driver shoots through the roof and a passenger shoots a flair gun, the angel tries to grab a baby, the driver slams on the brakes, the angel sails through the windshield and onto the street, the car spins off the road and we hear that one passenger in the car did not survive the crash (the other two have bloody cuts on their faces).
► Two angels with swords fight briefly and one is slashed across the chest and falls to his knees (we see blood on the blade). A man and an angel fight, one with a gun and the other with a bladed weapon: one is slashed across the abdomen and blood spurts, and one is punched and falls back onto a large stove. A boy bites a man on the neck (we hear a crunch and see blood). A man is struck by a car and thrown into the air.
► An angel punches a man and he is thrown into rocks (he's unconscious); the angel chases a woman and a baby, she nearly runs off a rocky ledge, a man jumps on the angel's back and they fall off the ledge.
► Many creatures surround a van where a family hides, and they take out the children and a woman (we hear screaming). A teen girl gets into a van and many creatures surround it, scratching the windows and pounding on it; a man shoots fire at them and they disperse.
► Many people driving cars twitch as they become possessed: people on a rooftop shoot at the cars, the cars swerve and crash into each other, and one is struck by a rocket and explodes.
► A man shoots a boy (we do not see it). A man holds a gun at a man who takes the gun away and presses it against the man's head.
► A creature breaks through a diner window and grabs a wounded man, pulling him back through the broken window, while people inside the diner try to pull him back. Three people walk through a crowd of creatures, one holding a gun, they get into a car and one creature bangs on the hood with a large stick. A man crashes through a glass roof (we see no injuries).
► A woman goes into labor, she yells, pushes and perspires, and we see the baby, covered with blood and goo and we hear a squish.
► A car drives into a huge cloud that is made up of flies; the flies get inside the car and slam into the windshield making it difficult for the driver to see. A huge cloud looms in the sky and moves toward a diner and service station.
► Several people arm themselves and hide in a diner. A man arms himself with many large guns and ammunition. A woman is tied to a chair. A man has a nightmare and wakes up in a start.
► A man lights natural gas causing a diner to explode, while he's still inside. Gas at a gas station explodes.
► A woman grabs a newborn and threatens to turn him over to evil creatures. Creatures scream when they hear a baby cry. We hear a loud and very deep groan a few times and people are frightened. We hear animals in the distance howling and crying frantically.
► An elderly woman tells a pregnant woman that her baby is going to burn, and that all babies are going to burn. A police officer says he'd love to set a city on fire and watch the people burn. A man yells over a telephone. A woman yells at her daughter and tells her she is to blame for everything. A man says he's having nightmares about horrible things happening to a woman. A teen girl talks about being a bad influence on her friends. We hear that a man left his family. A man says of his ex-wife, "I hate her guts."
► A man vomits (we hear gagging). A girl with a bag over her head wheezes. A man has a prosthetic arm (a hook replaces his hand). A man has many tattoos.
LANGUAGE 7 - About 21 F-words and its derivatives, 19 scatological terms, 1 anatomical term, 21 mild obscenities, name-calling (stupid, freak, shark-teeth, crazy), 3 religious profanities, 8 religious exclamations.
SUBSTANCE USE - A teen girl gives a woman a pill and tells her it'll make her feel better. A man drinks a beer, and a man has two cans of beer in front of him and he drinks one and gives the other to a woman who takes a drink. A pregnant woman smokes in a few scenes, and a man smokes in several scenes.
