VIOLENCE/GORE 8 - There are human/demons that are demons inside and human on the outside, and the only real way to tell what they are is by a red glow in their eyes; regular demons are humanoid looking with ashen skin, no gender features, deformed facial features and they appear to have the top of their head cut off, revealing the inside of the skull but no brain or other matter.
A girl is strapped to a bed, she tosses and struggles against the restraints, a man holds up an amulet, the girl snarls and squirms, and he presses the amulet against her forehead; it sizzles and we see smoke, she convulses violently, her skin becomes ashen and her veins become darker and visible through her flesh, and we see something moving inside her throat, distorted facial features are pushing outward and she tries to bite the man. A man hears noises and appears frightened, something moves under the skin of his face, a fly crawls out of his eye, he whimpers, and we see him dead later covered with swarming bees and many crawl out of his mouth.
A man kneels to the ground while having a coughing fit, a crab crawls across his hand, and a huge mass of beetles, bugs and snakes rises up next to him and attacks him; we see the fauna mass forming some sort of face and it talks to the man while continuing to attack him, knocking him to the ground, and holding his throat. The man runs into a busy street, the mass is hit by a car (bugs splatter on the windshield and others are scattered on the ground) and the man stomps on the scattering bugs as they scramble to get away.
A woman holds a spearhead over a woman's abdomen and begins to bring it down toward her. A demon leaves a woman's body and burst into flames. A demon snarls at and threatens a man, drags him by the arm along the floor, the floor begins to break under the man's weight, lifts him into the air, plunges his hands into the man's chest and pulls out handfuls of black goo. A man and a woman standing on a street watch as the lights all around them turn off, they hear flapping and screeching above them, the man wraps a cloth around his hand, lights the cloth on fire and holds the flame into the air revealing many flying demons who disintegrate when they come close to the light of the flame. A man/demon looks into a mirror, the mirror shatters, he is thrown back onto a table, a man throws water on his face, and his face melts (we see green goo and a bit of his skull); he gets up and holds a man against a wall, he is punched, falls back, and another man punches him repeatedly with brass knuckles, and the man/demon's face becomes deformed and begins to decompose. He is then shot and we see charred fragments of his body blow away.
A man puts his feet into a pan of water, holds a cat on his lap (we see the cat's pointy teeth), the water in the pan begins to bubble, the man finds himself in what is suggested to be hell with everything around him looking molten, burning and blowing violently, and he is followed by demons; we see crowds of people underground being taunted by demons (the people are writhing and screaming), and the man appears back in the chair and his clothing smolders. A woman possessed by a demon attacks a man pushing him under water, she is pulled back by another man, she snarls and growls and flails. A mirror is held over a bed where a girl lies, a demon bursts out of her body and into the mirror where it is trapped, the mirror is flung out a window and it crashes onto the ground below destroying the demon. A young boy sees a person whose face becomes decomposed and it snarls at him, then another demon sitting behind him screeches and lunges toward him. Many demons disintegrate when hit with water, others are shot by a man, and they splatter, screech and burst into molten dust. A woman screams when she opens a door and sees a girl slithering along the ceiling and snarling. A woman lies in a water-filled tub, a man holds her under the water, she begins to squirm and struggle to come up for air, she bursts out of the tub breaking the side of it, water pours out and her skin smolders. A man/demon squeezes a man's abdomen and pushes him up against a wall, the man winces, we hear sizzling, and we see bloody fingerprints on his shirt. A woman shoots a man/demon repeatedly (we see black spurts through his shirt), he grabs her, pushes her under water, she struggles, then finds herself in hell surrounded by snarling demons, and one lunges toward her. A man's skin turns ashen, his veins become darkened and visible through his flesh and a symbol appears on his wrist. An angel's wings burst into flames, and we see her later with charred wing stubs and skin.
A man is grabbed, dragged toward a wall, slammed into the ceiling and floor a couple of times, and we see blood on his nose and he dies (we don't see who's doing the dragging). A man slits his wrists with a shard of glass (we hear squishing and see puddles of blood forming). A woman squirms and panics when she feels something moving in her abdomen (we see something moving under her flesh and can make out facial features), two men chant over her, and the demon is exorcised. A man sits in an electric chair, he puts his feet into a puddle of water, another man puts an exposed electrical wire into the water, the man screams and we see scenes in quick succession of previous events. A man touches several newspaper clippings with his hands, he hears voices, his eyes roll back into his head, the voices stop and his eyes go back to normal.
A man touches a dead woman's arm (the body is in a morgue), he cringes, his eyes roll back into his head, he falls to the floor, then runs into a liquor store and tries to drink from several bottles but nothing is going into his mouth; he falls to the floor, pokes his hand several times with a corkscrew (we see his bloody hand later) and dies with liquid pouring from his mouth (he dies of alcohol poisoning). We see many bodies covered with sheets on stretchers in a morgue. A woman pulls back a sheet to see the dead body of her sister (the woman's skin is pale).
A man breaks through a hole in the ground, reaches into the hole, pulls out an item wrapped in a cloth, walks into a roadway where he is hit by a speeding car (the hood of the car buckles) but he walks away unscathed. A woman wakes up after hearing voices, runs through a hallway in a panic, walks out onto the roof of a building, stands at the edge of the roof, leans over and falls many floors, crashing through a glass roof and into a pool.
We hear the crash of glass, a car speeds away swerving (it is implied that the driver of the car was murdered and the murderer stole his car). An angel descends, lands on a man knocking him to the floor, the angel holds the man around the throat, she picks him up, she blows on him and he is thrown some distance hitting a door hard and breaking the glass (he falls to the floor unconscious). A woman is pulled back fast, breaking through windows and walls, a man chases her, she is pulled out of a high-rise window and presumably into the air, and we see her being dropped into a pool later (she is uninjured).
A man talks about having killed himself and that he was dead for two minutes. A man punches a man in the face, and he falls to the floor unconscious. A man punches a woman in the face (we see blood on her lip). A man grabs a woman, shoves her around, yells at her, she yells at him and pulls away. A man coughs violently in several scenes and spits blood in one scene. A man walks into a club where human/demons are gathered and we see several of them gathered around a table with someone being held down on the table and it is unclear what is happening -- although the person appears to be struggling to get away. We hear loud, deep flapping outside a window and a room shakes.
A man talks about a person's soul being "ripped apart over and over again in agony." We see a portrait of Jesus Christ on the cross with a spear driven into his side. A man tests "dragons breath" and blows a large flame out of a metal pipe. A woman in a confessional tells a priest that she has, "killed a man...another one" (she is a police officer). A man walks through a herd of animals and they keel over one-by-one (they appear to be dying). We see X-rays of a man's cancer-riddled lungs. CAVEATS

Be aware that while we do our best to avoid spoilers it is impossible to disguise all details and some may reveal crucial plot elements.

We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and older reviews are not as complete & accurate as recent ones; we plan to revisit and correct older reviews as resources and time permits.

Our ratings and reviews are based on the theatrically-released versions of films; on video there are often Unrated, Special, Director's Cut or Extended versions, (usually accurately labelled but sometimes mislabeled) released that contain additional content, which we did not review.
