"One of the 50 Coolest Websites...they simply tell it like it is" - TIME
Poetic Justice | 1993 | R | - 5.6.9
Director/writer John Singleton's second foray into "the hood" is about the importance of family. Janet Jackson is a budding poet who's thrown together with would-be rapper Tupac Shakur on a road trip.
SEX/NUDITY 5 - No nudity. One clothed sex scene (woman lifts up her skirt). There are, though, lots of very explicit references to sex.
VIOLENCE/GORE 6 - A young man is shot point blank in the back of the head and lands in his girlfriend's lap. Another man is gunned down and we see his body being taken away on a stretcher. The rest of the violence is inflicted by fists: there are fist fights, between men and between women and men. Little blood and gore, but a lot of kicking, smacking, slapping, shoving, punching and groining.
LANGUAGE 9 - Lots and lots. The F-word is used dozens of times, alone and in combinations. Also, scatological and anatomical terms are interspersed throughout, and used creatively.
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Drug use, alcohol abuse, theft, revenge, usury (especially by women), references to suicide, murder.
MESSAGE - The importance of family and that no one can make it alone in this world.
CAVEATS
Be aware that while we do our best to avoid spoilers it is impossible to disguise all details and some may reveal crucial plot elements.
We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and older reviews are not as complete & accurate as recent ones; we plan to revisit and correct older reviews as resources and time permits.
Our ratings and reviews are based on the theatrically-released versions of films; on video there are often Unrated, Special, Director's Cut or Extended versions, (usually accurately labelled but sometimes mislabeled) released that contain additional content, which we did not review.
Gladiator II - 2.7.2
Wicked: Part I - 3.4.2
Bonhoeffer: Pastor. Spy. Assassin. - 1.5.3
Emilia Pérez - 6.6.7
