Unlike the MPAA we do not assign
one
inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE
and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest,
depending on quantity and context.
A TV weatherman (John Travolta) and his lotto-ball-drawing
lady (Lisa Kudrow) team up to make some fast cash by rigging the Pennsylvania State
Lottery. Also with Ed O'Neill, Bill Pullman, Lisa Boyle, Chris Kattan, Emmy Laybourne,
Dawn McMillan, Daryl Mitchell, Colin Mochrie, Michael Moore and Michael Weston. [1:44]
SEX/NUDITY 7 - Lots of sexual innuendo, including references to
masturbation, genitalia, anal sex, oral sex, rape, lesbianism, biblical sex and sex with
blow-up dolls. Passionate kissing. A man and woman are in bed having intercourse, with the
woman on top of the man thrusting several times and moaning loudly (we only see her head
and shoulders; the rest of their bodies are under the covers). A man and a woman are in
bed and a man lifts up the covers and makes a joke about his penis; we also see several
shots of a man and woman in bed. We see a man's blow-up doll in his shower and it's
implied he's had sex with it. There are several scenes of scantily clad women in a strip
club dancing suggestively. In one scene a woman bends over and we see what appears to be
her bare buttocks and then she appears to shoot a cork out of her vagina a few times. Two
scantily clad women dance suggestively together; they touch each other in sexual ways and
form erotic sexual positions. A man grabs a woman's clothed buttocks. We see a man in
swimming trunks, lots of cleavage, and several shots of a woman in a white, nearly
transparent nightgown.
VIOLENCE/GORE 5 - A man is shot in the chest and dies (no blood). A man
whacks another with a baseball bat, kills him, and throws him off a bridge into a river.
An asthmatic man dies after a person refuses to give him his inhaler. A man is shot in the
leg, a man slaps another man in the face, a woman sprays mace in a man's face and then
kicks him in the crotch, a woman tackles a man and slaps him twice in the face, a woman
throws bottles at a man but misses him, a man hits a man in the legs with a baseball bat,
a man throws a crowbar through a windshield, a man breaks a window with a bat, a man runs
a snow mobile into a tree, a tractor-trailer flips on its side, a car drives off a road
into a field, and a car runs into a glass window.

PROFANITY 10 - About 40 F-words, many anatomical and scatological
references, several mild obscenities, some religious obscenities, several insults, and a
few racial slurs. [profanity glossary]
A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we
started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were
not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many
older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please
keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period.
While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are
limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process.
