"One of the 50 Coolest Websites...they simply tell it like it is" - TIME

Addams Family Values | 1993 | PG-13 | – 2.4.1

The “Addams” family saga continues with two plot developments: Gomez (Raul Julia) and Morticia (Anjelica Huston) have a baby, and somebody’s after the family fortune, again. Also with Christopher Lloyd, Christina Ricci and Joan Cusack. Directed by Barry Sonnenfeld. [1:34]

SEX/NUDITY 2 – Two kisses: one between Morticia and Gomez and another between two youngsters. Uncle Fester and his bride are shown on their wedding night, discussing sex and virginity. There are some sounds of gratification, but nothing actually happens and there’s no nudity, just a little cleavage. A woman licks a hand seductively.

VIOLENCE/GORE 4 - Much of the violence revolves around the attempted killing of two characters, one of which is a new born baby: the Addams kids throw the baby from a rooftop, and then place him in a guillotine; no harm comes to him. Fester is electrocuted in a bath tub and then blown up, but he keeps on ticking too. A "normal" woman is also electrocuted, and she dissolves into a pile of dust. Kids torch the scenery of a play, and tie a girl to a stake, threatening to set her on fire; they then tie two adults to a rotisserie spit and put it over an open fire. Animals also suffer at the hands of the Addams children: a cat is buried alive -- we hear it meow -- and an eagle is shot out of the sky with an arrow. The violence is meant to be funny, and it's mostly non-lethal, but impressionable youngsters may get ideas about trying some of the stunts at home.

LANGUAGE 1 - Two very mild expletives are uttered.

DISCUSSION TOPICS - Serial murderers, virginity, death as a laughing matter.

MESSAGE - The strength of a family lies in unity. Being different is something to be proud of.

CAVEATS

Be aware that while we do our best to avoid spoilers it is impossible to disguise all details and some may reveal crucial plot elements.

We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and older reviews are not as complete & accurate as recent ones; we plan to revisit and correct older reviews as resources and time permits.

Our ratings and reviews are based on the theatrically-released versions of films; on video there are often Unrated, Special, Director's Cut or Extended versions, (usually accurately labelled but sometimes mislabeled) released that contain additional content, which we did not review.
